Funny Earl/Kid Delicious story

Not sure if this one has been posted before, I heard it for the first time at a nearby place where Earl had played Kid Delicious in the past. They were playing a set and Danny was checking Earl's rack pretty much every break. He was on the hill and checking again when Earl said something like:

"For god's sake why do you always have to be checking my racks, just break!"

to which Danny replied:

"Well, I see you left me the 9 ball dead and I didn't wanna win like that, but if you're gonna be an asshole about it...."

He proceeded to break and drop the 9 in the corner.

This is secondhand so I make no promises on accuracy :)

Second hand or not .. that is first hand funny!

I thought it would've been Earl screaming fat jokes at Danny. Both great players. What do they mean by leaving the 9-ball dead? :embarrassed2:

Players who know how to read the 9 ball rack will notice certain gaps in the balls will send the 9 ball in the direction of the corner pocket.

Buy Joe Tuckers Racking secrets DVD and/or book. The info is priceless.

Earl is one of my favorite players ever. I can almost guarantee that after Danny did that the only words out of his mouth were heads or tails...ive seen him in action quite a few times, even when hes down I'm yet to see him act out or run his mouth. Something about TV or Europeans really pisses him off. He does talk to himself quite a bit though.

I see that the book is out of print?

That story is hilarious no matter how many hands it went through for me to read it.

Does he answer?

I wanted to get the book as well and saw that it was out of print.

It's a very small book, I own it. It was updated and published as a chapter in "The Great Break Shot Book" by Charlie Bond (easily available). And you can buy "Racking Secrets" also updated as a 2-DVD instructional set.

I attended the Legends lessons with Earl and Johnny Archer in Albuquerque last year. One of the "jokes" Earl told was..."What do pool and golf have in common? Fat people can win at both of them." Maybe this match with Kid D made him a little bitter....great story!
:p

Joe is an active member here at AZ, member name 'Joe T', so I'm sure you could PM him and find out where and in what forms Racking Secrets is available. I haven't read the book, but I've seen the video and would definitely recommend it.

Good luck,
Aaron

The same kid who was relating the story was showing someone else the secret of the dead 9 ball, and was grousing about how the top player in the state charged him something like 5 or 20 bucks for the info. The same player told him not to show it to one of the local champs. "If you do I'm charging you 500 bucks." lol~

Joe's DVD is awesome, I consider it a must-see for everyone. It woulda been more accurate to call it "secrets of reading the rack" or even "secrets of the break"... I think people haven't caught on to the video as well as they should have because they think it's just about how to get a tight rack vs. how to slug someone. It's loaded with info like how to make the wing ball, the 9 ball, the 8 ball, and how to avoid getting slugged.
