• I heard this a few times last night ... "Shane VanBoening is in Mike Dechaine's head and he just can't fade it."
Is it that, something else, or maybe a combination of things? Will today be a totally different matter? Chime in and give your thoughts.

Perhaps it is moreso that Shane is just a great player and is capable of beating anybody, including Mike

Maybe some but at the end of the day they are 2 different class players I think the day one results were to be expected the question is will Shane lose his focus and let mike creep closer then put the hammer down in the third set

This.

It has been said elsewhere and might as well be repeated here.

There are two remaining elite level professional pool players in the USA, SVB and Archer. Noone else is in that league, Mike included.

The step from SVB/Archer down to the next tier is not a small one and that is being shown this weekend.

I don't think that's the case
Everyone has seen Mike perform much better.
That was not his top speed

Earl can still play with them when focused, as can Corey Deuel and Rodney Morris. They would all be definite underdogs to Shane, but could definitely beat Archer, although Archer would still probably be the favorite (remember Earl did beat Archer in the all around match up they had a few years ago)

I think the whole environment had him off.
I think you will see a different MD tonight

I agree with this. I think Mike will play better tonight. For his own sake I hope he gets away from excuses for losing and figures out a way for himself to make a better showing. It's not the break only that beat him last night like he is claiming. He needs to play better and get on the right side of the ball when he's running out and don't miss:grin:

I do remember Archer losing to Strickland a couple years back in that all around bad blood match. Don't forget that Shane just lost to Archer in the last TAR match and the pockets were tight too!!! Archer can still hang:wink:

I don't think Corey or Rodney beats the usual MD
Mikes had to fade a lot of Earl style bashing
That itself takes getting used to
Everyone forgets RM dogging his brains out in the MC

"home court"

Neither Rodney or Corey think they're favorites against Archer. Johnny, like everyone else has his ups and downs, however, Johnny plays better than anyone on any given day.

It's about being comfortable, and Shane is comfortable on that table and it's basically his "home court". There's many advantages when you are in this situation and it gives someone a tremendous amount of confidence.

Could not of been stated better CJ!! Mike is in foreign territory..He's a pro though and I would think he will be more adjusted to the environment now and should have a better performance tonight. I think when most pros draw Mike in a tournament they don't have to love it. When he's on, he can really play. Hopefully he can make a more exciting match of it tonight. I really believe we all saw Mike's C game last night. Now we wait and see what happens:smile: What you said about Johnny Archer I couldn't agree more with either. I think he made the statement when he beat Shane in the last TAR match. He basically as you pointed out, beat him on his home court!!

mike will settle down today

Shane played like thebig dog,and he is. Mike will settle down. Hopefully he gets a chance to show what he can do.

Shane has one gear playing for push-ups and a higher one playing for the cash. Shane has a smooth automatic transmision and Mike has to shift gears manually. That said, Mike played terrible last night. I have seen Mike beat Shane in tournaments a time or two. Johnnyt

I think the term 'Seasoned Veteran' might be appropriate. It has a meaning.

Maybe I'm wro...................ng, but it's kind of like the movie The Hustler.

How old is Mike. How many big time matches does he have under his belt.

Experience breeds character.

Some have a 'killer' instinct while others just play & let the chips fall where they may.

Everyone matures at a different rate. On any given Sunday is the saying in fooball, but consistently winning is what 'Seasoned Veterans' do.

Mike might not be quite there yet but he is certainly banging on the door.

Personally I hope he comes back & wins. It would be great for the game for a rivalry to develope.

Just my $0.02 but...I could be wro.........................ng.

Celtic, you are dead on in your analysis. SVB is in a totally different league than Mike. Could be experience level,ATTITUDE, or pure god given SKILL...call it whatever you want but it is what it is...jmho

This is a "must" if he wants to bring it home!
