Ring Game is going to happen today. Be at Big Dogs at 4 PM where I will hold a Players Meeting and make all the rules clear and start playing about 4:30 PM. The buy in is $50. Come on out Des Moines for a good time.

I'm sorry but honestly Jason C isnt in town, and Don isn't playing so i dont think anyone is stealing anything.

Sooooo for an inaugurural event WE KICKED ASS LAST NIGHT!!!! With a $50 entry fee to a ring game in Des Moines on the big tables we had 17 people come out and play. Let me repeat that 17 people!!! We had a prize fund of $850 last night which is strong as horse piss. I was ringing phones, sending texts, and just getting everyone to spread the word and we did end up with 17 people. Now for the run down on the event.
No shows for different reasons were Jason Chance, Pet, Jody, Gary DeCarlo, Troy Honeycutt, and Jon Brown. That's literally 6 people that were gonna play that didnt make it for various reasons and we still got 17 to play.
The group agreed on 4 A players and the rest play as B's. The A players were Athens, Phil T. Mikey Henderson, and Jamie Fenton. Athens is the only one that cashed he finished 4th. Mikey Henderson went 10 and out lol, talk about being a victim in a ring game.
I want to acknowledge the people who played in the event right now because I really am appreciative of them coming out to play and sincerely hope they join us again on the 27th for the next ring game. Here's who played:

I can't give a full recap of the entire event but we started at about 5:00 and finished right around 2 AM. I think people really liked how often the order changed and I seen some great intentional fouls to get out of racks. Anyways through various rolls and runouts the final table of 6 players competing for the prize money was Jamie Fenton, Mike Athens, Justin Richardson, Paul Ashmore, Theo Lee, and Myself.
The ante is up to 4 chips at this point and myself, Mike Athens, and Jamie are all fairly shortstacked with between 16-22 chips. I think it is very important to note that Mike Athens, Paul Ashmore, and myself were all on the same opening table for the first two hours of the event, thats pretty strong we all make it to the end. Anyways I fall out first blew my only opportunity to chip up and I go on tilt and bust out. Jamie goes out right behind me in the next 2 racks. Mike Athens almost made a push but he was subdued by Justin Richardson's ring game moves to pocket the 10 from anywhere. Athens finished 4th and recieved $50 for his efforts.
Now Paul, Justin, and Theo play until the bet gets to a 15 chip per game ante and they pass chips around for about an hour or two. Justin is eventually sent by the wayside in 3rd place and recieved $100 for playing. Paul and Theo decide to race to 9 for the first place prize so they lock up in a tough set. Paul is up 6-4 on the way to 9 when an issue arises that halts play. There was an apparent misunderstanding that Green Fees would be waived for this event however that was not true. Me and Jon Brown talked some more, I figured to have a tourney this successful in this place and the additional business it may bring would be good enough for the house...it's the only tournament there where the tables are not donated and big dogs does not add money per player. In other words my tourney is the red headed step child. Jon finally decides to waive the green fees of $5/player for this tournament which lets us keep the prize fund at a full $850. Next tournament I will have to add green fees on, sorry boys. Jon was cool about the whole thing because several people got hot about the prize money changing. Anyways after this commotion they didnt wanna play anymore so Paul Ashmore took $370 and Theo Lee took $330 and they both left happy for sure.
Thanks again guys...I'm shooting for 24 players on the 27th when we do it again. I think everyone had a great time and people realize they all have a chance with this format.

First of all, i thought it was cool that Theo, Justin and Paul A did so well. Everyone expected Athens/Jamie/Phil to rob the tournament. I think after watching these games its kind of sad how DSM players shoot on 9ft tables. Not that its entirely our fault since we didnt even have them for 5 years til Big Dogs opened up. Most games almost everyone got atleast one shot. (Diamonds piss me off)
Green Fee's for a Bi-monthly tournament that brings people in on a normally not busy day. No thanks. Its already a $50 tournament with no added money, and noone seriously asked for added money. (phil, lol) Some people there, well atleast me paid my Day rate anyhow to play some pool, and then didnt really play because the tournament took awhile, and i was helping Justin hold all his CHIPS ! ! !
After the tournament people matched up some and there was some ok action. Danny Bennett got 12-4 from Phil with me backing him and we won $150, danny told me i only had to give him $50...cool huh ? I know Mikey and Kirk were playing 9 ball with Kirk getting the 5 and 7, no idea how they ended up.

Good tournament though, and crazy good turnout. And i think almost everyone had a good time and atleast had a shot to win alot of games and go on.

I knew it was Matt Eddy, he likes to go by his last name though. Anyways a lot of things got to me yesterday, I really wanted to win it first of all and just kept missing outs I normally would get there on. I also was doing the best I could amongst all that extra shit I had to deal with, so yeah from time to time a piece of chalk is gonna get launched. Shit happens. Yeah people arent gonna be crazy about green fees and no money added for a tourney at our local pool hall. I don't know the future of it yet. I think Chance is going to help me run it from now on since he's the only one that expressed interest in doing so. We also have some ideas for another tournament to be held monthly but I dont wanna disclose that one yet. Stay tuned!
We gotta get the room behind us too...I think we should have a meeting with the management and work it all out.

Wow - opening the door? LOL
For a first time event, you got a great turn out. A lot of us, eh, small fish; were just there to test the waters and see what all the commotion was about. It surely helped out that none of the "A" players took it off. And no one played too strong. Theo played good in my group, but everyone had chances and no-one got ran over without a shot. Mike H. was the first out and had plenty of chances at the table, it wasn't like he was sitting for 10 racks.
For me, $50 is a monthly tournament and one that I wouldn't enter weekly. Plus my schedule doesn't allow like it used too.

I thought that things could have been smoother and "Chip-Gate" with you and Jamie was intriguing but I could have done without the drama.
I think you need to figure how to group the tables as people get put out. Something with design and then once it's written down, sticking to it. with 3 tables it's harder due to the odd number. But maybe always start on 4 tables until you get down to the final three on each, then combine to two, until down to three each, then combine to one. I think once you iron that out, it would be much easier for folks to comply with the tournament and you would get less 'conversation'.
Once folks get the rules, and play a few times, it should be fine.
I thought the spot for the B players was okay -- it seemed fair and worked out decently this time. I had my chances and just didn't play good on the big table. (I need to get a bigger house, so i can get a bigger table...) Chans would also agree I don't play good on the big table.
Maybe some type of payment structure that rewards making the merge's. For me, it would bring more possibility that I would play again. $50 is a bit more than I like, but the opportunity to recoop 'some' would be more enticing, as it brings me down to the 25-35 range? Maybe Big Dog can help out with this part? If you make one or two merges, maybe it's worth 10 each time -- but this takes away from top prize, I know. For me, I don't mind donating, but it's what I am doing. There is really no chance that I would ever cash. So, I will probably play when I get a chance and feel like paying to get some 'live fire' exercise.
Overall, it was a resounding success IMO. Kudos to your ochestration, as it takes time and energy to put this all together. I know a few couldn't care less, but I enjoy seeing and hearing good pool and this tournament is another that could be added to it.
I was also glad to see Theo, Justin and Paul playing well and in the final three. Big tables are a different bird and it can't hurt for DM as a whole to play on them more.
