Based on his skills alone, Anthony belongs on the team and would strengthen Team USA.Do you believe Meglino should make the team?
All I know Stu is if he played Styer or Billy, my money is on Meglino. His game is still improving....Styer has gone backwards.
The issue is that he sits out most of the WNT tournament schedule, so he will probably not earn one of the three automatic qualifying sports for Team USA unless he has a top two finish at the Florida Open or a top three finish at the US Open. That means he would likely have to be a wildcard pick, and quite understandably, players that don't participate much in WNT play are far less likely to be selected as wildcards.
Of course, Matchroom's "mood of the moment" is a factor here. A few years ago, they included a player who had played in just one WNT major that year, namely Earl Strickland. In 2024, they omitted Josh Filler, the best 9ball player in the world, who played in nearly all the WNT majors but skipped the Hanoi Open. Yet another time, they named Russian Fedor Gorst to Team USA. There's really no predicting their next move when it comes to the Mosconi Cup.
From a marketing standpoint, the inclusion of a Floridian when the Mosconi is being played in Florida might just work. I saw how much fanfare came Athony's way at last year's Florida Open. In addition, he is a quality guy and a good representative for pro pool.
