$10000 for first place

I don't understand how Hillbilly was the only top player there. That's insane. Nobody must have known about this tournament and you can bet Hillbilly wasn't tell anyone. haha. There are numerous guys playing the USBTC, competing against many champions for less payouts in each event & higher entries, that could have went to this and easily played 1st or 2nd.
Here are the players and payouts for the event.

I'm suppose to go to Charlie's home today and shoot some pool on his new Diamond. He seemed unusually happy on the phone. Now I know why.

Thats why the payouts are odd $$$ amounts. It would be my guess that the $10,000 cost a little more than $40 to win. Maybe a $40 entry to the tourney, and then what would you guess charlie sold for in the auction. The only name I recognize is Javier, so I'd have to guess he sold for $1000 or more in the auction.

I played in a b tournament there back in the fall. There was a nine ball tourney a couple of days before that had some handsome payouts. White diamonds is a very nice place with friendly staff, equipment is nice and smoke not all that bad. I give the place five stars.

It's still big dollars. (You do get around......)

Funny story, I went to a bar-box pool tournament, with two female friends who play pool, that had mens and womens divisions. The mens division usually has 2 or 3 known pros.
The tournament director called out "all girls playing in the 9-ball event please come and sign up" so both of my friends go and sign up, they both pay their entry and the TD says "Okay, it's you two on table #1, you'll be playing for 1st and 2nd" (no other girls showed up!)
The entry was $20... 1st place was $1,000, 2nd was $800.
I played the mens division... I had to play Tony Roberto, Glen Olson, and Corey Deuel
PS; congrats to C.B for making as much in one tournament as most pros make in a whole year! Charlie is a cool guy, hope to see him for the HR final stop this year.

Yeah Joey-------------this is the same fluff tactic that Janis uses with the Viking Tour. Let's make it look bigger than it is. Tournament payout and calcutta are two different animals. They never need to be added together, period. Entry fee vs. calcutta use totally different odds calculators when deciding win percentiles as a traveling or local player.
However, this is the current trend promoters are using to draw players into their tournaments. Get them there and than pillage them for over-inflated tour cards, high entry fees, green fees, 20 to 25% of the tournament purse and 10-25% of the calcutta.
Hillbilly went for $2300 in the calcutta. I don't know who bought him or if he bought 1/2 of himself.
A bit more4 than I expected
But I figured he'd sell pretty high, since I didn't recognize many names. In a field that big though, anything can happen. Some young kid on a hot streak. Or a shortstop who hits a gear. Congrats to Charlie anyway. It's a nice win.
