14.1 Clinic at Derby?

hi

thanks for the suggestions guys and your right 10 people seems like alot.i know its hard for me to talk for 4 hours straight ,so im hoping people ask some questions.im going to try to have the first group be of similiar ability level. instead of me just running balls for 4 hours and talking about what im doing,im going to explain each segment of 14.1 in little 5-15 minute groups .then after all that then i will run 50 or so so that people can then see what i was talking about and how it all ties together.also there is many more players of say 10-50 ball runners than 50-100 or 100-200 thats why the first group will be larger.if i get there and people only want groups of 5 than i guess ill just do clinics everyday until everyone is good to go.again thanks for the advice see you guys there

JOHN, I WILL BE THERE ON THE 3RD AND WILL LEARN SOMETHING REGARDLESS HOW MANY ARE IN THE SESSION. IN THE INTEREST OF REVENUE, IF YOU WOULD MESS UP WILLIE SO I WIN OUR BET, I WOULD MAKE YOUR WALLET SEEM LIKE THERE WAS 20 IN THE CLASS. HOPE YOU AND ALL THE AZ'ERS HAVE A GREAT NEW YEARS AND SAFE TRIP TO THE TOURNAMENT.

I also think it may be a good idea to have a somewhat beginner session for 14.1, to seperate the greenleafs from the green. :) I fall into the green category. ;)

I've always shot a little 14.1, but never really played it competively as no one in my neck of the woods wants to play it. Its always been 9 ball, 9 ball, 9 ball. And if you don't like 9 ball, your a one pocket player. Thats the category I fall in, so when I'm shooting for the cheese... all I need is 8 balls in one hole. Thats pretty simple. I'd be a bit intimidated if I got to the clinic, and everyone else in the session were 100 ball rollers. :) JMHO.

Look forward to the clinic regardless.

hi

im thinking what i should do is take the signups right there after the 10ball ring game. as soon as its over i will sign up my first 10 people.i would like those first ten to be under 100 ball runners.ill be easy to find that way and everyone will probably be there watching .i figure on doing the clinic the next morning from 9-1.but again it depends on other factors so i gotta play it by ear a little.see you guys there.

Sorry to keep bothering you, but what day is that? I went to the dcc site and their schedule mentions ring games almost every night.

My wife's birthday. Perfect! :rolleyes:

Thanks, John. Since I don't get there until the afternoon of the 5th, I'll have to look around for stage 2, if there is one. If not, good luck in all your games.

I was told that the banks ring game was on the 4th, and the 10-ball ring game was on the 5th. Not to muddy the waters; but it is really confusing.

If the straight pool clinic will be the morning of the 5th, count me in. If it is going to be the 6th then I cannot attend (leaving the evening of the 5th - have to go home and work for a while, returning on the 8th for the 1p-HOF dinner). I'll see everyone at DCC.

Willie:

I'd love to be counted in by just chiming in here but it seems that John is making people wait until they get there and then there will be a mad free for all for entry.

Anyway, maybe we can play a short game of 14.1 either before you leave on the 5th or on the 8th or early 9th.

DMG,
Yes, I understand the "mad scramble" idea; but it sounds like the scramble will be the night of Saturday the 5th (I have it from a second source that they also believe the 10 ball ring game to be on Saturday), rather than Friday the 4th as JS mentions in his post.

Let's definitely play. Either a short match in the AZB room; or perhaps a longer midnight match Friday or Tuesday (the tournament tables open up at midnight for open play). I have a money match with COLLECTIONGURU sometime that week, so I'll definitely need some pointers from you.

Don't want to hijack your thread, John. If what Willie says pans out, (which I am sure it will), I may get a chance Saturday night to sign up for your sunday morning class. I hope my decision not to use upper case letters does not affect my chance to get a spot in your class.

Willie:I won't be there until late afternoon Saturday. maybe we could play a short match then and a longer one later.

Based upon my recent matches, here are some of the things I might be able to teach:

1. How to get a picture perfect last 4 ball roadmap to a break shot and choke on an easy shot and leave the table;

2. How to finally not choke, get the break shot, and overcut and hit too hard and miss it, leaving shots aplenty;

3. How to finally make the breakshot, but be frozen to the rack or in some other way, not get a shot;

4. How to make the breakshot, get the cue ball loose., and a few shots in, miss a duck and turn the table over.

I have finally made it to number 4 (occasionally) and feel good about the future.

You are about to turn the corner!

CG,
You and dmgwalsh are sandbagging in vain. There will be no handicaps for you guys - bring your sticks and let's play.

dmg,
OUCH!!!! There is NO need for you to teach me these things - I have them almost completely mastered........damn, that was uncomfortably close to home.

Show me a straight pool player that says he hasn't gone through these stages, and I'll show you a big liar.
