I was just curious about the interest in it,the live stream numbers showed that there wasnt alot of interest,I peaked at about 100 and averaged around 60 viewers.I am thinking perhaps its that alot people who like straights might not be on the net.Perhaps you guys could give some input into it,thanks. :)

Hi Lenny, first off thanks for doing the feed, for us 14.1 enthusiasts it was a lot of fun!

Here are my thoughts on the viewership numbers.

There was nothing about it in the straight pool forum until I posted it right before or duing a match, can't remember exactly when I posted it. Although it was posted in the main forum, a lot of 14.1 enthusiasts may only visit the 14.1 forum. Perhaps if it was posted here in the 14.1 forum a week before you may have seen more, probably not double but maybe a good percentage more viewers.

Another thought is that it wasn't really bad numbers for a 14.1 regional tournament, especially in June, up here in the northeast where 14.1 is probably more popular than anywhere, they simply don't play pool in the summer and don't pay much attention to pool until sept or october. For instance Tony Robles's Predator Tour drew 40 players last weekend instead of their usual 70-80, and thats 9ball. I think if your event was held in the winter months and posted in the 14.1 forum early then you would have had 200-300 viewers.

Another thought is I don't know how many you retained, maybe you had 300-400 different viewers at different times that logged in and out. I think some commentary would retain more viewers. I know this is not a money making venture for you and the feed is free. But people by nature get bored watching any dicipline and not knowing exactly what is going on, or being entertained in some way if they don't know the players, commentary helps retain viewers.

And lastly, although there were some good players there, you had only a few names to headline, Scott, Jimmy and a couple others in the tourney drew some interest , but without a host of big names to collide on the flow chart, you will gather only so much interest.

Thanks again, we all enjoyed it and hope you continue to produce the shows.

Thanks for all the feedback and I do believe you are right about the time of year. The weather is always the same here in AZ,hot and hotter and being from NY I know how pool slows down this time of year.I will continue to do these streams as they come along and look to do some other stuff more along the lines of action matchups when I get a line on something happening at the rooms.I will certainly be doing more commentary for future broadcast so its just not stale air, thnaks again for the feedback.

I did not know about it until I saw the post about it being on live right now. I watched some of a couple of matches. I thought the feed was pretty good, my chat window came and went. I did not tell anyone else it was on so that might of helped.

Also, I really appreciate the sponsors kicking in so that could happen.

Did you list the unique number of IPs, I think you look those up so you could get an idea of geograpical viewership.

What would help would be foreknowledge, some way to see who is playing now and the score. Also to see what matches are coming up. I know that is a lot of work so just some quick comments from the hip. Thanks again for putting it together and sharing with us.

I would agree with everything that Kevin said - and I would also recommend doing a build up on all of the major forums for the event. If I can help out in any way, do not hesitate to call me. Even if I have to go out there - I want to help build the game of 14.1.

There is a market out there for 14.1 - and the more exposure the game gets, the more the game will grow.

Just to let you know, last year Danny Harriman drove all the way from Missouri to Pennsylvania to play in the Sinkler 14.1 event at D&D's - only because he loves to play straight pool and he heard that there was an invitational tournament and he WANTED to be invited so he could play in it and WIN it. If the players know that the event is taking place (especially if this is an annual event) they will show up and support it - especially if the event grows in popularity and the prize fund grows. Get with Danny and let him know about any 14.1 event - he will definitely do whatever he can to support the game of 14.1 - and John Schmidt is the same exact way.

You guys did an excellent job putting that event together and you also did an excellent job of getting the matches out to the fans. I'd also like to thank the players that showed up to play in the event - some of them had never played straight pool before, and I hope that participating in this event will motivate them to learn more about the game. Thank you so much!

I plan on embedding a widget that has a map and will show who is viewing and from where in the world, and also a counter if possible to see how many hits and also total viewers.I am sure the numbers of different viewers that checked it out were 200-300 or so,because people come and go. :)

I will certainly get in touch with you Dave if and when I do another 14.1 event, would like to get people tuned in and watching, the sponsors like numbers when it comes to anything so I think getting the word out there on all the forums is crucial and in advance.I know we had 60-70 viewers on at one time or another with many coming and going so I am sure my numbers of different IPs were in the 100s but I will have to start keeping track as its nice to have numbers.I appreciate you tuning in and giving your insight and knowledge on the game.

I would say you had a successful broadcast. Thanks for putting it on.
Thanks and I also feel it was pretty good,I just wasnt sure that the numbers were good,I do believe people were out enjoying the nice weather and whatnot also. Will try to do better on the next broadcast,I hope to do more 14.1 but its a rarity to have an event especially one that is close enough and practical enough for me to do. :o

I enjoy the broadcasts very much, thanks for them.

If I had to come up with something that detracted from the broadcasts (if constructive suggestions are permitted) I'd say to improve them a tad, it would be perhaps a little more lighting for the camcorder, and perhaps a slightly higher angle as well.

I agree, lighting is a key in clarity, all the rooms overhead lights were off and just using the table light hurts the quality of the picture.I just have to get a lighting setup that wont interfere with the players at all and also work on the audio a bit, always room for improvement but for the 3rd stream I have done it was pretty good.I will get the camera up alittle higher, audio, lighting and commentary and things should be improved.I appreciate the constructive critism, its helpful to me and for the stream.

I thought the broadcast was awesome. Higher quality than I've seen with some other streams, and I had very few problems with the feed and the chat.

It's true we don't have enough 14.1 events, BUT there is the World Championship Qualifier Jimmy is hosting on July 12 at Kolby's. I think it is the only one in the west, so hopefully there will be a few top flight players. Has he talked to you about streaming? Don't know if you're even available, but I'll mention it to him when I talk to him today.

Thx again Lenny.

I told Jimmy I will do streaming for him there at Kolbys,I really like the room so I will do it July 12th for sure.I almost forget about the qualifier and was looking at the poster at Kolbys last night, should bring out some good players so we can mark it up as 14.1 for everyone on July 12th!

I just wanted to say I didn't know about it till now either...I should be more self-aware, but I have enough problems to worry about :D

live feed

I love the live fees idea. But I never new it existed till the Frost vs. Efren matchup. We all need to start telling each other the website for the live feed and I believe it will catch on.
One other note:If the players on the live stream matches could tell the score to the commentator between racks. This way we wouldn't have to keep asking the score. If you noticed I was keeping score during Bernie vs. Jimmy and I would post it now and then. Anyway, just my opinion, otherwise I really like the live feeds and will keep watching them.

I watched a few matches when I could. What I saw was great. I learned of it in the 14.1 forum from the 'live now' post. I have liked it if there was some way to post the match score during the match. Thanks very much for your efforts.

I watched one of the matches and really enjoyed it. I really couldn't tell if it was truely live, because I clicked over from the AZB post, and the opening lag was just starting! I figured the video started when I loaded the page - lol.

Keep it coming, thanks for making it happen!
Jon

I totally would have watched, but I wasn't aware it was on until this thread right here... right now.

Some pre-"advertising" would have helped a lot I think...
I'm one of the few, but I would actually schedule my day/weekend around to make sure to be able to be online during the hours of a match being streamed live like this.

I wouldn't mind watching 8 ball, 1 pocket or 14.1 matches

7, 9 and 10 ball are all over ESPN and other sites... and frankly... there's a bit less strategy in these 3 games. Sometimes a decent safety battle ensues, but that's once every 5 racks.

Thank you for streaming this in the first place, I'm sorry I missed it.

Thanks, Lenny

As soon as I read the Forum, I "tuned in" and watched until... Bernie's 71 run was terrific!

I watched matches on Saturday and Sunday. The server seemed to cause troubles on Saturday. I appreciated being able to watch the matches and your hard work.I liked being able to type comments and read the comments of the other viewers more then the live commentary.I would enjoy watching 8,9,10 ball or 14.1.Thanks again for your efforts.
