14.1 players playing with borrowed cues

The article (on AZB home page) about the Predator 14.1 tourney has left me wondering if it's even worth it to travel with your cues:

Other notable matches included a nail biter 100-95 win to Thomas Engert over Charlie Williams. Engert led the match from 56 to -1 and then 90-50 when Williams made a 40 ball run comeback while using a borrowed cue(many players had lost their cues in transit), and made a terrific backwards bankshot in the end but got stuck in the rack at 95-99 in favor of Engert. Fabio Petroni won his first two matches also using a borrowed cue from Thorsten Hohmann.

Compared to some others on this site my cues aren't worth a whole lot monetarily, but scenarios like this sure doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling about traveling with them.

It looks like many players have overcome it, but how bad would that play on your psyche, comfort level, and confidence knowing you didn't have your personal cues to play in an event such as this? I have to hand it to these guys that are winning despite not having their preferred equipment.

It's always a risk, but a very small one. If you're that concerned, you can always FedEx it to the hotel you're staying at so that it's waiting for you when you check-in.

Count me in the camp that says it's not really a big deal. Any slight detriment in your play because of it (and if it's even there, it'll be really slight) is counter-balanced by the fact that people expect you to not play well - thereby making it easier to play well. Zero pressure at all.

Do not Fed Ex it to the hotel. At least not the Reno Sands Regency. I had a friend FED EX an important package to me there. The tracking said it had been delivered before noon. It took me 2 hours of talking to management to finally get someone to look for it. A security guard found it in bag of regular mail. Whoever took delivery apparently did not understand why people use FED EX or that most guests do not recieve their normal mail at the Sands.

Ship it to the closest Kinko's to the hotel. The cab fare is worth it.
 
as far as I know no more pool @ the sands in reno for the usspa and open under new ownership.
 
I don't know if this helps anyone, but if travelling with a group, 6 cue cases fit nicely in a travel golf bag.That's what our team does and have never had a problem.
 
im surprised a pool company hasn't made a special suitcase for poolplayers traveling. something better than the cue duffle bags ive seen for sale.

i would be a dealer if they did

I wonder if you got an old suitcase & put your cuecase inside, then stensiled "STOOL SAMPLES" on the outside in big letters.....


Do you think anyone would open it then?
