14.1 tourny

Sorry for the late post guys. I was only able to play today in the afternoon.

I couldn't put up any good numbers but I did manage to capture a 30 ball run on video. I'm in the middle of uploading it to Vimeo. I'll update this post when it is available.

I definitely would like to see this become a monthly event :)

Thanks,
Ray

BTW, was everyone starting from a break shot?

Great run Bill! what kind of camera are you using? I need to get a new one and am shopping around for the best kind. yours looks pretty sharp. I'm learning from your patterns, watch out next month!

Thanks Jesse.

I use a Panasonic MiniDV camera. With a MiniDV you can hook it up straight to your computer with a firewire and record thru Windows Movie Maker. Theres no tape in the camera and I keep it plugged into the wall so no worry that the battery will go dead during a run.

My 72 ball run started from a breakshot. My 77 started after I missed a ball at 32.

Just watched the 77... very nice. I see why you said more 'text book'.

Your end patterns are very solid. Nice shooting.

I Made It........

LOL..... this is funny. Sometimes I'm a Nut. I just ran 82......... and I was running around the table like in Speed Pool b/c I wanted the run to take place before 12 midnight here in Texas. I missed with it being about 10 mins to 12 midnight.
I also started worrying if the battery or the tape in that old VHS recorder was going to run out. All of that caused me to miss a open shot (long shot) with balls everywhere and easy picking after that ball. 100 was right around the corner and looking at me.
So, I have a 82 to show for myself. I'm happy.
Will try to post it tomorrow night.

Can't wait to see it! Nice run under time pressure. I'm going to try to get my friends here involved in this. I think we're going to learn a lot. I'm already reevaluating my end rack pattern play after seeing how sharp Bill's patterns are. The last 6 balls of every rack are a scramble for me.

ps: I was under the impression the competition ended at 9pm western/ 12pm eastern time so you might have missed it by 50 minutes, I'm not sure. awesome run nonetheless. I vote for midnight wherever you are, but Bill will vote for the original time specified I'm sure LOL

I was under the impression that the video had to be posted for viewing by midnight eastern time.

I read Mike's post about running 82 at about 11:15 my time, I assumed he was to late because the video wasn't up by the specified time, but I decided to take a few more attemps just in case. I ran 21 missed and than ran 90 from there. I missed at 11:45, tried to show my watch to the camera but you can't see the time. I'm posting it after midnight so I assume it dosen't count. Either way, this was fun!

Sorry about playing barefoot, I thought I was done for the day. lol

I had a pretty good day: 72, 77, 50, 90. Next month I probably won't run 20.

ps. Great run Mike, especially under the pressure.

I might be wrong but a week end tournament like this means Sat. & Sun. and there has been 24 hrs in each day as long as I remember.
Be that as it may. Bill, you win the first 14.1 Forum tournament with your run of 90. (you made the run before midnight)..... Congrats.
My computer is old and has so much stuff on it that I can not down load. The few videos that I have posted, I took over my son's house and he down loaded them for me after I made a DVD from VHS tape. I had written about that a while back. So, there was no way that I could of down loaded videos before 12 mid.
Anyways, I am going out today to buy a new tower for this computer system. The time has come.

Jesus, Eddie! WTF is going on!?

And you said you were no good under pressure.

Has to be your best day ever.

And look at all these other guys putting up big numbers. Damn!

Driven

The climate in SE Wisconsin is pretty nice but even so I keep a dehumidifier going in my basement. Wouldn't that alleviate your problem somewhat?

i'm really sorry now that i sold my table. regardless, being way out in the country on dialup, i'd never be able to get my vid uploaded. i'm going to solve both these issues soon...

as far as the time-frame is concerned; it makes sense to me that we'd play in our own respective time-zones and wait for the west coast to strike midnight. it's not fair to someone in cali to have to finish their run by midnight eastern time and not likely that someone on eastern time is going to be pushing balls till 4am muttering jinxes at marop.

at this juncture i believe that most of us can be trusted so let's not worry too much about someone cheating and going past their midnight deadline.

the only thing i suggest is that all runs begin with a new rack. you miss, you re-rack and start over.

BTW: bill and mike kicked some virtual 14.1 butt. being in competition with these two will bring all of us up to a higher standard. i expect everyone to be shattering their high run records as a result. i can't wait to be able to compete.

The results are in!
and the winner is...

1 Marop 90
2 14.1 straightman 82
3 JesseAllred 69
4 Me 57
5 Bigcat 30
6 Dmgwalsh 26
7 Wink 20

If I missed someone let me know and I will add you to the list.

I hadn't thought at all about time zones. The best way might be to play in whatever time zone you are.
Video's can be posted whenever you get the chance, just put up the number so we know what you did.

on a personal note I had a very enjoyable weekend doing this, I felt pressure to get something respectable. Nobody wants to miss out on their own party, and was very happy with the 57. I know I can run a certain # of balls but what i don't know is can I do it today or right now.

I was thinking 4 times a year but if everyone wants more so be it. you guys decide. I am in
thx everyone

Steven:
Thanks for thinking this up. It was a lot of fun and it gave me something to drive to-wards during practice. I have to plan my practice times better the next time that we try this again. I got one hour in on Saturday and three hours in late Sunday night. With the four hour total, I had hit a 50, 42, 46 & 82.
That is very good practice for me.
I think 12 midnight in each players time zone is the correct way to go
and then posting sometime on Monday is very reasonable.
Congrats to all that played and keep up the good work.

PS; Sausage: Thanks for the nice complement. It is appreciated.

Thanks a ton for putting this on. I hope that you do it every other month, or every quarter. We can all track our improvement. While I am not happy with my whopping 20, it is what it is. It is my starting point.

Congrats to you guys! All of you put up some great numbers. I look forward to closing the gap a tiny bit in the future.

And when my numbers go up to something a little more respectable, I'll go buy a video camera. :)

This is neat. But I'd hate to see a great, long run stopped by the stroke of midnight. How about just requiring that the final run must start prior to midnight on Sunday in each time zone?
