160K Stakehorse Challenge!

John/Greg good luck with your endeavor. I think it's a great idea and hope to make it out for the DCC next year.

The Show will Happen It's a No Brainer

I agree with Johnnyt, it should be a Draw.

Getting first pick and choosing Shane Van Boening is a No Brainer.

Their are StakeHorses who have No Brains so they will pick someone else.

I'll save my 20K for gambling One on One, with my Horse.

Get some weight and I'll be happy :).
If I get no Weight, then my Wife will get my Money when I get home and she will make me Happy

I will enjoy the show and make side bets on the show, BarneyCalip

what was the determining factor as to why the discipline was changed?

Wutang

I spoke to some of the stake horses and everyone agreed that it would be more likely to happen with One Pocket.

I think even if we just have 2 entries this will be awesome.

I like!

One-pocket for BIG Money on the 10 footer, I like this idea! I hope they can get 8 players!

I'll be there to watch, no matter how many play!

OK, so let me get this straight. If I back a player, and he wins, and the "random" player I draw does not win, then I will get

$100,000 * 60% * 75% = $45,000???!!!!!

That seems like a really bad wager if you ask me.

2.25:1 on my money with a 7:1 shot.

I'd rather call a pot-sized bet and draw to a gutshot.

Sorry I have been busy with work and haven't had time to reply to a lot of the questions being posed here.

After talking with Ray we both felt it would be easier to fill the field if we switched to one pocket. I am still staking Shane in this event and Scott Frost has also been picked. Everyone else is still available at this time.

Considering no one has picked the winner of the 1 Pocket US Open the last two years in a row I would expect him to be picked soon.

I am not sure how using 10' tables is going to change the 1 pocket, my guess is no one will be a sure thing.

For Stakehorses that don't want to put up the full amount as long as you are willing to put up at least a quarter stake (5k) I will try and match you up with others that are willing to go in with the player(s) that you choose. I happen to be splitting Shane with my Father as I often do when he is able to get out. So just PM me with your player choice and how much you would be willing to put up and I should be able to make it work.

Looking forward to the event!

You are completely forgetting about your horse coming in 2nd and the other 40% chance of your other player coming in 1st or 2nd. Odds don't seem like you specialty I think you should just keep your money in the bank, but if you are ever looking to play some high stakes poker look me up.

Also...it's not really 7:1. It's possible to win 1st playing only 4 matches

Sorry... I don't follow. If there are 8 players, the average odds have to be 7:1, regardless of the mechanism (tournament format) by which you decide the winner.

In this tournament, the only reason why it wouldn't be a fair bet is due to the amount you have to pay/split with your player, offset by the free hotel rooms.

You are correct with 8 players of equal ability the odds of winning an eight man tournament is 7 to 1.

What I was saying in my previous post is that you also have to calculate either of your players getting 1st or 2nd. So just looking at the money if your player gets first without taking into account your other player is not calculating the odds correctly.

Here is a little odds quiz:

How many possible winners are there in this tournment? I will give you this one as it is really too easy, minimum 2 winners, max 4.
What are the odds of only two winners?
What are the odds of three winners?
What are the odds of four winners?

1-pocket on a 10-foot table?

Is Alex bored with Snooker yet? I would put him as favorite in this if he commits to focusing on winning it.

Off the top of my head (wouldn't want to stake my life on it) probability of:

2 winners = 1/49
3 winners = 2/7 - 1/49
4 winners = 5/7
