What's the size of your wkly tourny, our had 119 Wed

I would like to know how many rooms host a weekly tourny that's drawing in excess of 100 players, both pro and am, and has a 10 ball break and run that now exceed $1,000 per ball.

Gate City Country Billiard Club in Greensboro NC currently has such a tourny. Held on Wednesday @ 7:30pm. Hncp index 9-2, race to 4, single elimination, $15.00 entry fee. A 10 ball break and run is currently at $1,000 a ball and until the pot is busted, is paying $400 on a ball on the break. Plus $400 for your ticket to be picked. But hold on to your cue, they also have a second B&R that I think is paying around $850 per ball. But with no money for ticket drawn or balls on the break.

Is this an abnormality or do any of you fellow AZers have such tourny in your neck of the woods?

I wish we had something like that here. Makes me want to drive to North Carolina to try and get my ticket picked.

Current status of B&R Jackpot at Gate City....

Pot #1: $1000/ball, $400/ball on the break, guaranteed $200 for getting picked.

Pot #2: $680/ball, $200/ball on the break, guaranteed $100 for getting picked.

Tickets are $5 each, limit 20 tickets per shooter. Must be in the tournament to shoot in the B&R.

Why aren't you there?

Good post Rick. We need to get someone to snap some pic's this coming week and post 'em up.

Last week I was there and just about anyone that is anybody in pool in the region, was there (I missed this week 'cause I went to the Santana/Winwood concert ). Anyone recognize names like Earl Strickland, Keith Bennett, BJ Ussery, Jeff Abernathy, Scott Lewis, Derek "Chewy" Leonard, Tony Morrison, Brooklyn Mike, Cloud, Arnold Hamlett sp?, Adam Stanton, and and plus plus!! Not to mention some renowned railbirds like Captain Steve and Big Al.

Ya reckon there's been some extra curicular action going on? The owner, Don Liebes, will rent the room after hours and rumor has it, Don's not gettin' any sleep on Wednesdays!

Tickets for the B & R are $5 each. You must play in the tourney ($15 entry)to play the B&R, and it is handicapped single elim. The hall is a madhouse of fabulous pool energy and characters on Wednes. If you aren't there, you're a pool square!

The B & R is streamed at 10 pm and can be located on Gate City's web site at www.gatecitybilliards.com.

In our dreams

I run a Friday night 9 ball ring game tourney with a 10 ball side pot game we sell tickets for

I need to move

Sounds like a great place to be

Almost wish I was back at FT Bragg. I have friends in the Broadway/Sanford area to visit though.

"Lucky" is not the right word for everyone in that area. We don't have anything where I live to get the pool players blood flowing and it's a shame because we have a lot of players here......

Yep we do in Hickory, but lately it hasn't been drawing 100+.....maybe because of summer, but before summer it was drawing 70-130 with 10ball b&r capped at $10k.

WOW!!

Amazing tourny...

Tucson tourny players are different....majority of them won't get in a 5 dollar side pot. Last week there was 2 (TWO) people in the side pot. Myself, and one other. It's pitiful.....

Never a ring game before, during, or after a tourny.

That's what I loved about Greensboro, nobody was afraid to gamble. Ring, or partner game EVERYDAY. Without fail, somebody would be willing to play something.

On the golf course was the same way....

I miss you guys!!!

Yep that is true $1000 a ball and ticket winner get 400 just for the ticket . but wait dig this the table triple shim gold crown and she is not a hoe .
Larry N did it crushed the rack "Dolly P " all the way ( all bust no balls )
About 5 pro Tried and no luck yet ....

The pot is getting bigger and If your on the road Come by Wednesday night you might get lucky..

That's outstanding. We do 10 Ball before our weekly and monthly tournaments, however our pot isn't as large as the ones mentioned in this thread. Hopefully this fall/winter we can build our 10 Ball pool back up!

bump to the head of the line

bump to the head of the line need some more prospectives

I've been there for the last 3 weeks in a row...Nice tournament, good atmosphere....short races...must play well to get in the money. I lost in the money round to " Chewey" Great player, with good attitude. They do allow smoking in the room and also have a non smoking side too.... I observed that several players would go outside to smoke anyway. Dobros next door offers excellent food and will deliver with a phone call...Overall great experience....will be there this coming week.

I don't believe this table is triple shimmed. It may have been at one time, but Earl didn't like how the pockets were accepting balls. So I believe the owner accommodated by having the rails stretched. Perhaps someone knows more on this and will post.

It's tight and tough as nails. I believe on the B&R contest that most contestants have been "hired guns." Meaning the people that have the winning ticket have someone like BJ or Chewy attempt the B&R. So if these guys aren't taking down the cheese after so many weeks, that tells ya a bit about how this table plays. It's tighter than a nun on a 1st date!

How late in the evening does this tourney last? :)

How late in the evening does this tourney last? :)

We'll with 119 players last week...it goes on late even with the short races...Id say 2-3am for the winner. I think the tournament was down to the last players...but most were watching the Action with Tony Watson giving up 7 games in a race to 10. Man that dude can play...dont think I lot of people chase him down for even action???

Bump to remind people in the Greater Greensboro area to shake it on over to Gate City Billiards tonight. Besides the $15 handicap tourney, the break and run pot is sky high! And you can count on a lot of heavy hitters and action hounds being there! Tourney at 7:30, B&R 10 pm.

For all those who care, there was a full field of 128 for last weeks tournament. The two draws both featured dry breaks.

Pot #1: $1000/ball, $400/ball on the break, guaranteed $200 for getting picked.

Pot #2: $980/ball, $200/ball on the break, guaranteed $100 for getting picked.

Tickets are $5 each, limit 20 tickets per shooter. Must be in the tournament to shoot in the B&R.
