$200 for a billiard university diploma!!

If you've ever set up the same shot over and over and over again in order to master it, you've done a drill.

Exactly. And, I feel that the reason some won't do structured drills like the B.U. exams, is just because they don't want to face the reality of what they actually can do and can't do. They would rather hide in their own little make-believe world than face reality and then do something about it to better themselves.

Exactly. The kids that could not hit, or not hit well, never showed up. I never saw them there. But the good kids, and the great kids, they were all there. The best pitcher in our leauge was at the indoor facility taking pitching lessons from a top instructor. My son asked why does he need lessons, he's awesome.

Well, he's gonna see better and better players. The weaker players eventually drop out after about 14... after that, most players on the team are pretty good hitters, thus instead of mowing down the lower half of the order, he's gotta work a lot harder now.

Stupid drills aren't necessary when you've got two score and seven years experience.

Sorry, Rick, I'm calling BS. Mercedes does not get out of bed to sell parts at $1.64. I'd like to see that receipt. You could not even buy license plate screws for a $1.64 from Home Depot, let alone MB !!!

So, basically, there was about 6 hours of labor involved that you decided to do yourself. Well, bravo, I don't have a spare 6 hours to work on my cars anymore. So, is MB wrong for charging the appropriate labor rates ($130 per hour in these parts).

What is your logic? Nobody here believes that could not get the scores themselves but some want it documented and the actual degree, big whoop.

And no, I have not taken the test, most likely will not, and you can take it to the bank that I will not pay the $200, but I do understand the free market, and folks buy what they like.

But for whatever reason, you woke up with a hard on, yet again, for the instructors at AZB. Well played Rick.

I'm sorry I do not have the receipt to show you & everyone else, as it was quite a few years ago & I, apparently unlike you, do not keep receipts for $1.64 for years...

But... I AM NOT A LIAR! as YOU suggest in your post.

I was told by the Dealership & not Mercedes that there was a design flaw in the accelerator cable connection & the whole system had to be changed.

I figured that if there actually was a design flaw the German Mercedes People probably figured out a way to fix it & I was correct.

I DID buy the part, from the Dealership, for $1.64 including tax & I DID install it myself in their parking lot in less than approximately 5 minutes.

AGAIN, I AM NOT A LIAR as YOU suggest in your post.

I do not have any problem (your words were hard on) with instructors at AZB. I do have a problem with untruths like the one YOU are trying to convey with this post of yours & I also have a problem with being insulted by instructors or anyone.

Your perception is incorrect & you do not know the truth of the matter.

As to 'the actual degree' BU program. You just proved 'Elroy' / Tim's point.

It can be mistaken for an 'actual agree' by some, due to the 'University' & 'Diploma' motif. While that might seem to be a bit far fetched, even you just made a subconscious erroneous analogy.

I think it would be very constructive to perhaps have a disclaimer from the very beginning & that would be my suggestion to resolve any such potential issue.

I would certainly hope that those responsible for such a decision would consider it.

Best Wishes to you RJ & I hope you can see my points without taking offense.
Rick

It's been a long while since I laughed so hard.

Not as funny as the goofy, border line psychotic PM you just sent me. An entire "rick" manifesto of how I am now your enemy.....

I called "BS" on a Mercedes receipt for $1.64. I've recently sold my MB (see avatar) and know what parts cost at the dealership. Now you've turned this into an entire I called you a liar and publicly embarrassed you, and you could "sue" me for such slanderous actions. And of course, you "only" wished you still had the receipt to show me !!!

Dude, in all seriousness, get some help.

Oh wait, I take that back.. call off the lawyers... puulease. You don't need help, you're a well adjusted and responsible adult who does NOT need any therapy of any kind. . See, I'm saying good things. We cool now, right ?

Yeah, we're real cool.

Thanks for proving some of my points to all that can read objectively.

I gave you the opportunity to apologize for basically calling me a liar & you doubled down on inferring that I am not telling the truth.

The plastic part was about the size of 3/8 inch by 3/8 inch. Similar to a plastic pull tie. How much does the locking mechanism portion of a single plastic pull tie cost?

Who knows, maybe the part was mis-marked or rung up incorrectly. Maybe it was being sold at cost as it was related to a design flaw.

The point is... I am NOT a liar as you are trying to make me out to be to suit your own ulterior motive & purpose.

Now I really do wish that I had the receipt to prove to you & everyone just how arrogantly wrong that that are.

Why would you want to call someone a liar over such a an issue?

Would it make you feel better if the part was $5.00 or $15.00 as compared to the $575.00 that the dealership wanted to charge me to change out the whole system when it was unnecessary to do so.

Why is it that some seem to think that one can basically call someone a liar, especially in 'public', & simply expect to walk down the one way street & have nothing to come back at them for their actions?

Would it possibly be to distract from the issue or to cast personal dispersions upon an individual with a different opinion to illicit an emotional response from them? Is that part of the the definition of a troll?

My constructive suggestion of an upfront disclaimer for the BU Test & possible 'Diplomas' program is, IMO, still a good idea.

What the heck is going on in this thread...from the issue of the diploma to Mercedez Benz parts lol...

I took the first exam and thought it did a good job of covering specific shots regardless if it wasn't in a situation where I am playing an opponent. Exam two looks to hit areas where exam one didnt, so I will be taking that one and reporting the results of both in that thread for record purposes. It amazes me how such things like a $200 diploma could make someone just go off, especially when they aren't forced to do it. It's a choice. I appreciate the time and effort that went into putting the program together and posting the tests for people to take...you would think there are more pressing things going on in the world that people could be discussing/arguing about instead of a billiard diploma.

Spimp13:

When all you have are the hours in your day to expend on a site like AZB, it's easy to while away your entire day like the two antagonists are.

Gosh, to have the sheer amount of time on one's hands to expend like this. I, for one, would sure put those hours to better use!

Maybe they should spend the time actually trying and practicing the BU Exams.

It might actually help their games, and they might even find the challenge fun. I certain enjoy it.

Yeah, we're real cool.

Ok, here's the deal whackadoodle. Part of my MO was calling out Mercedes, more than you, but take it like you want. MB charges you for the paper they print out the parts invoice on. If they can find a way for charging for the toilet paper to wipe your arse in their dealership, they would. I've never seen anything like it before. But also to mention that you like to play fast and loose with "facts". Read my post again....but much more slowly this time.

They nickel and dime (more like fin and sawbuck) the "heck" out of their customers... So, yeah, forgive me please kind sir for insinuating a part made and sold by Mercedes Benz of Germany only cost $1.64 in the good old United States of America, when an oil change was costing me $150.00. The first and last oil change they ever did for me. I eventually found a place to do 10 quart synthetic oil change for $ 115.

You really need to lose the persecution complex. I called BS, and you read it is calling you a liar and a fraud, and I quote, from you PM, " I need arrogant condenscending ego help from a phychaitrist"... whatever the hell that even means

too funny and too sad all at the same time.....But at least I know not to tangle with you anymore..... I've learned my lesson. Call off the lawyers !!!!

Dr. Dave's post from the BU thread.

I worked on Exam II this past weekend and managed to improve my best Exam II score from a 69 to a 72. I could probably do even better with some more practice, but I think I'm done for a while. My best Exam I score to date is 88, and my best Exam II score (limited to Masters level, since I am on an 8' table) is 72. That gives me a best total score to date of 160 (88 + 72). I'm pretty happy with that for now. My next goal will be to get a Doctorate-level score on a 9' table (maybe next summer). I would also like to see how high I can score on a Valley/Dynamo bar box (also limited to the Masters-level Exam II).

If you want to see my latest Exam II, here it is: Dr. Dave's best Exam II run to date.

I can hear the detractors already, once they see the list below. They will say: "There is no way you are a A++/AAA player (based on the BU rating) or an A+ player (based on the 10-ball ghost drill)." Concerning the BU rating, they would be right. I definitely don't play like a AAA player. However, remember that these are the best runs at the exams I have been able to accomplish over a many-month period. Also, I'm playing on an 8' table with fairly generous pockets. Now, if a person were to get a score of 160 on a 9' table with tight pockets on a regular basis (which I for one can't do), then the A++/AAA/semi-pro rating would probably be appropriate.

Dr. Dave,

Your own words seem to explain why the 'Diploma' aspect seems to be a bit off base to Elroy & now myself as I have looked at it a bit more closely. The level of performance can be related to a period of time & perhaps even table conditions that may or may not hardly ever be the same. You may score 160 one day & 145 another day.

Toby Keith's song lyrics, 'I may not be as good as I once was...but I'm as good once as I ever was.' seems to be rather applicable in this instance.

You ask others to take a look at the test.

I ask you to take another look at the whole design set up with the 'Diploma' motif with an objective eye & with Elroy's concerns in mind.

If it is how you want it, then so be it. But a disclaimer or the changing or adding of a few words can make a difference.

While the test may be a good thing in an objective way as a more universal measuring stick in some regards, it certainly does not seem to be consistently definitive due to the performance variations that you yourself have mentioned & the fact that practicing the specifics can yield different scores.

It is not like a Billiard IQ test. It is dependent on performance variations from time to time, test to test.

Today I am a Masters with Honors but yesterday I was a Doctorate.

I hope you can see the points that Elroy & now I am trying to make, even though you have said in the recent past that you could not.

Regards & Best Wishes,
Rick

I wouldn't call them drills, they are tests/exams/accessment of skill sets. They may not be perfect, but it is the only objective approach to find out how well can you really perform.

People say pool is a game of judging odds, I think doing drills and document the result is the most accurate and efficent way to gauge your odds under different situations.

Remember some don't have to practice since they have been playing four and a half decades.

Trust me I would be doing anything else then spending my time online for 10 to 15 hours a day.

Of course though when you read those posts it makes you wonder what some are like in real life. Maybe staring at a monitor and stirring up poo poo is all they can do.

Maybe they should spend the time actually trying and practicing the BU Exams.

It might actually help their games, and they might even find the challenge fun. I certain enjoy it.

Dave

Hey 'Cool' 'Whackadoodle' 'Dude',

Am I supposed to take that as an apology?

Why do you bring up what was a private exchange?

You quote out of context, etc. to give a false impression. Who exactly is the "I" in that 'quote'. I made a comment regarding God helping you & then added that you might not believe in God so I referred to you possibly getting help from a human source for your arrogance of basically calling me a liar.

I agree with you about the high cost related to Mercedes.

But who said that the part was made in Germany? It is a small plastic part that could have probably been subcontracted out for production to any injection molding plastics company in the USA.

As to the lawyer stuff, all I said was that if this were the real world & you had called me a liar in public, you might find yourself being sued. I have never sued anyone for anything. I was just making a point that many say things here that they would not &/or should not say in the real life public world.

But again... you want to give a certain illusion.

Why can't you just simply say that you are sorry & should not have inferred that I was even possibly not telling the truth because you just don't really know one way or the other?

What do think about my constructive suggestion regarding a possible disclaimer for 'the actual degree' issue?

Relax Rick. Don't waste your time on someone who claims he cannot find a few hours to fix his car, yet wastes a lifetime on AZB.

Yes, Thaiger, i spent all of 10 minutes posting today... wheew... I'm beat. I don't have the time on weekends between the kids "stuff". And personally, I just don't like smashing my knuckles anymore doing brake jobs and other repairs and wasting an entire saturday doing it after I've worked all week.

That can happen a lot with some people. It is completely out of order. Private means private where I come from.

But some people are lacking.

Oh, so when you admitted you were The Thaiger in a PM with me, I was suppose to keep that bloody private... thanks for the tip old chap :) I won't tell a soul ;)
