200 kg ivory haul may be Gabon's biggest ever

Of course, I am not pointing to anyone in particular on AZ but in my 6 decades of walking this earth, I can say with 100% accuracy that you cannot fix stupid.

Get Your Red Hot Popcorn Here Folks!

And on that note, I am out of here for a wonderful weekend and would like to wish all of you a fantastic weekend too.

Better than ivory collars.

Ivory

And if you're a smuggler, why would you wven try the US ?
Wait, because cue makers are rich?
And the like green ivory?

The Ivory tusk I saw carved into a bridge was the most impressive piece of art I had ever seen in my life.....................................

Smuggled ivory, green Ivory, I know nothing about it . what Ivory I do have is legal and I can prove it.

I am not going to get Caught up in some stupid Ivory law .
Its total BS to allow people to legally buy ivory then say its illegal to sale it later on down the road.

In the real world some one would get slapped for pulling BS like that.......
Any more the whole world is just all screwed up on everything.
Liked it allot better when everyone worked and didn't have time for all the gossip crap.

Wrong again, Mr. ivory banner.

I offered several concrete ways for the saving of elephants but you don't listen to or see any items that don't match your mantra.

You are , in my opinion, entitled to your beliefs as I am entitled to mine. This Forum has pro and anti ivory proponents. Most don't stoop to your level of name calling and constant posts labeling any one who uses ivory as anti-elephant.

You can make ivory possession a felony and you will not save the elephant. Try conservation, elephant reserves(I would say preserves but you would think I am suggesting we eat elephants) and the death penalty for poachers. Wait, I am repeating myself from earlier posts but you must not have read them or rather, they did not fit your mantra.

Yet you can stoop to lying, and woofing about a bet. Got it.

I've already said the elephant is a "dead species walking". There is NO SAVING THEM. They're done.

You're clueless about the "death penalty" for poachers, because the poachers aren't shooting elephants. They're leaving poisoned oranges, or they're hiring poverty stricken locals, handing them a gun and saying "I'll feed your family if you bring me the tusks".

The drug dealers aren't the ones selling the drugs on the street. They have people that do the dirty work. You must think the ivory poachers are poor African soldiers driving around in jeeps, like in the movies. They aren't. It's Chinese crime syndicates. Who hire local killers and brokers.

Try offering up some ideas to beat organized crime. I, and the FBI would love to hear them.

The podium is yours. Speak.

Oh, and before you call me a liar again, here's a source for some of the the statements made in the above.

That's Yale University, and an interview with one of the leading elephant experts in the world.

Threads

There's no argument on my part. I'm just tired of people using me as a target for some displaced anger issues they have.

Use ivory all you want. Bathe in it, for all that I care. Just admit you like ivory, and that elephants pay the price for it. Pretty simple.

It's this rhetoric of some people saying "We're not causing any issues for the survival of elephants" that is laughable. Argue it all you want.

If you're ok with your need for ivory, that's cool. I will not tell you what to do. Just don't hide behind the belief that you aren't contributing to the problem. Go ahead and use the "screw it, they're going to be dead anyways" argument. It holds more merit.

No thanks, like I said, there are some threads designed to get people to argue with one other.

Your out to make hard feeling with anyone, for no logical reason.
This thread is doing nothing to save the elephants in reality.

I am not into fruitless arguments conversations.
You want to help the elephants , then just do it and stop wasting good oxygen.
Get off the box and stop preaching about it and actually do something about it that is more then just hot air.........( go to Africa ) join save the elephants foundation , donation if it bothers you that much.

Maybe some of us will follow in your foot steps ..

here is a fact for you , Mr. know everything.

Elephants do not have to become extinct. They need to have the hand wringers like you to do something besides wail.

As an example, in the 1950's Axis deer in India were nearly extinct. The Y.O. ranch in Texas and a small number of other ranches bought some of the survivors and moved them to the U.S. The herds were grown and culled along the way. Today, the Axis is almost a pest in much of the Texas Hill country. I raise them myself and also elk, and whitetail deer.

No, I am not suggesting elephants be brought to Texas to be saved but here is a concrete example for you as to how you and others could save elephants. Spend the money, buy land for elephant preserves and hire competent guards in Africa. You might volunteer time and or money.

You asked for suggestions and now I am sure you have some reason why it would never work. Try using all that donated money that the Ceo's of your foundations receive as salaries for a start. Spend that money on the elephants.

By the way, I spend thousands of dollars each year to promote wildlife. What in hell have you ever done except ***** about those who won't drink your cool aid?

I have never done ivory joints, I think if I did the ivory would be over phenolic joint and the ivory would be a sleeve.

Would I do the same with antler like ivory and put a phenolic collar under the antler ?

Seasoned antler don't no stinking phenolics.
Drill a 1/2" hole and put them in your trunk for a few weeks.

i should not get involved in these discussions. My apologies to everyone because I am too vocal some times.

Best wishes to all and Holiday Greetings to each and every one of you

Thank you Texans.
B/c of them we have Axis stag.

WWF is a scam. They just caused dozens of elephants to be killed by the people they underpaid to protect the elephants.

First off, it's Kool-aid.

Second, I could care less what you donate your money to. It s like the gangster that puts money into the collection plate at church. What you do with your money is your own business. The fact that you advertise where you give your money to makes me question if you give it out of sincerity, or because you like to brag about it. I wouldn't tell anyone where I give my money to, because quite frankly, I don't do it for recognition.

Third, there have been 1000s of people with PhDs working on this problem since the 80s. I'm assuming at least ONE person had the same idea as you. It hasn't happened, and they have money at their disposal. Elephants are still being killed. Are you honestly that arrogant to believe that you hold the answer to a problem that is 100 years old, and that no other person has thought up the same idea as you? Please.

Fourth, I've done more than you ever will for the plight of the elephant simply by having never bought anything with ivory in it. If there was a world full of people that were like minded, we'd have elephants in the wild, because no one would need the ivory. It could stay on the elephant.

You seem to think throwing money and guns at a problem will make it go away. It won't. The battle is with people who can't go without ivory. But keep proposing solutions to a problem that is centuries old. Nothing is working because the real problem isn't being addressed. There is a desire for a finite resource by a world population that is increasing, and the product is becoming more and more scarce.

After I drill the antler I pour thin CA inside the antler. and re drill it in a couple of weeks.

I was told by a native Alaskan that walrus pecker bone machines up like ivory.
I haven't tried it but it is legal

That is an interesting article for several reasons, the most important one being that the United States is never mentioned as a problem in the ivory trade nor the recipient of new ivory from Africa.

On June 24, 2014, Ning Qiu, a resident of Frisco, Texas, and an appraiser of Asian art, pleaded guilty today in federal court to participating in an illegal wildlife smuggling conspiracy in which rhinoceros horns and objects made from rhino horn and elephant ivory worth nearly $1 million were smuggled from the United States to China. Qiu, 43, who has worked as an Asian antique appraiser for seven years, pleaded guilty in Plano, Texas, to a one count information charging him with conspiracy to smuggle and violate the Lacey Act. Qiu was identified as part of “Operation Crash” – a nationwide effort led by the USFWS and the Justice Department to investigate and prosecute those involved in the black market trade of rhinoceros horns and other protected species.
Great.
Now they can smuggle some from Africa then. Fresh kill.

No need for CA.
Wax the ends so it dries inside out .

You can even use Minwax Wood Hardener and brake bleeder to force that nasty stuff in there. :grin-square:

Sorry, not touching those walrus thingies.
