Anyone running any balls?

Well, have had time to play maybe twice this year so not so many opportunities to score heavily. Played an hour of 14.1 and put a "magnificent" run of 29 together (I think it was 16th Jan). But I'm not sure if I want such entries to the list, I gotta have some pride

No pride here. I played 14.1 for about a half hour last night against a good 8-ball player in my league who like me is also not really a 14.1 player. My high run: 6. I blame it on being early in the evening, and I had just left work and hadn't relaxed enough to play my best yet. That, and also that I SUCK at 14.1.

My next goal (to be started on after I attain my current goal, an APA SL7 in 8-ball): I will have a high run over 70 by 2010.

Well, I had a 52 on the front DCC straight pool table, but it had taken me a long time to get in stroke. I had the feeling that the balls were stickier than I'm used to.

Hey Bob, what percetage of toughness would you put on the Diamonds compared to a standard double shim GC? I guess what I'm trying to ask is what would the high run of 139 been on that GC?

thanks.....Gerry

I'm not sure about that "standard" table, but compared to the tables at the New Jersey State tournament, I'd say that it would have been like a 200. I was hoping that the competition record of 182 would be broken at DCC, and I think that if Hohmann had been there and Engert had taken more prelim tries, it might have been. Deuel was getting into straight pool stroke by the finals, as well. The tables were getting tougher as the event went on.

That's understandable, the "slick" was probably wearing off, and the real teeth of those table was begining to show:)

I hope next year the 14.1 challenge blows up into something REALLY big. I have already made plans to attend, and my pool room at home here is about done, so I will be ready to try my best....

This was in 2006, so I'm sure you should be on the list on the front post! :p

How many tries did it take you to get 52?

I ran 10 or so in on the AZ table playing straight pool. It was definitely tighter than any table I generally play on. I kept messing up shape because I was so concerned about making a ball!

Donovan and I might be playing some Straight Pool next weekend so we may get some good runs in! :p

14.1 Personal Best

I'm in, whether I suck or not...no wait, there really is no "or not."
I love this game, though. Wish I'd played beginning years ago, took it up when I hit 50. Play 8-ball in a league just to be playing, but really think 14.1 is THE game.

37 - on 9' table, normal pockets
23 - on 9' table, first time transitioning racks successfully; Major 1st for me
many $%&^*() times getting to the break ball and (multiple choice)
missing the shot, missing the pack
missing the shot, breaking the pack
making the shot, missing the pack, or dying on the pack,
...and my personal favorite for a frustration rush:
making the shot, breaking the pack, missing next shot

Personal Goal = 50, or transition three racks anyway!

Just a quick update. My table is in at home, and I've been working hard on the mechanics of my stroke to fix a life long alignment problem. I'm running 40's and 50's daily, with a nice 68 the other night. I have yet to make a century on the new table, but it will happen. I set up a video camera, and tape my runs just in case I go off and run some balls. I have never played so much pool in my life!:D

Yeah, we'll get some good runs in...probably in the cloth. I hate it when that happens. :D

High run of 60 for 2006.

Felt like I put my hand in a light socket I was so shocked when I missed. Especially since I passed up a 80 degree cut shot that would break the balls wide open and instead played a safer, more makeable shot.

Well, I got a chance to play Donovan this weekend. It was great to get to play another AZ'er and Donovan was a really nice guy and pleasant to meet and play pool with.

We played 9-ball, Straight Pool, 38, and some One Pocket. We played on a 9' table with medium pockets.

Since this is the Straight Pool thread, I'll mention that my high run was 25 in our race to 200. I'm not sure what Donovan's high run was, but I'm sure being in an unfamiliar poolhall didn't help him too much. Also, him giving me an extra point here and there on the scoring wheels probably helped me out. :p

I think Donovan could have shot better and he seemed to be missing a lot of easier shots I didn't expect him to miss. I'll have to go to his poolhall next time and see how I fare on the tables there.

Overall, I think we played for about 5 hours or so. We had a great time and I'm looking forward to more Straight Pool!

Well then, I guess it's a good time for me to start playing 14.1. I've messed with it a couple of times, but I need something to get me past this plateau I'm in and I think this might just be the thing.

Main list updated, thanks sjm for the info.

I'll have a serious crack at this in a couple of weeks, surely others can add to this list?

I mentioned this in another thread and had not read this here yet, so sorry if I am repeating. Samiel killed me and I had a blast. The rematch will be well worth looking forward too. Great fun was had by all. There was no table, home court advantage, or anything like that. I play all over the Midwest under all kinds of conditions. That stuff doesn't matter. I played poor position and Samiel played great. CONGRATS SAMIEL!

I had a run of at least 41 in practice last night. I ran two racks and screwed up position on the break ball for the next rack. I actually ran more because I had finished off a previous rack, but I don't remember how many I had run from that rack. I had to make a good bank to continue the run at one point, but I nailed it!

I also ran a couple more in the 20s but kept screwing up!

Ive updated the first page now Samiel

Wow... those are some impressive runs on this post. I've never run 100, but I feel that I'm not too far away.

Highest run in practice: 72
Highest run in competition: 63
Most impressive run: 50 and out on Danny Barrouty
Highest run last week: 47

Strong w/ the force am I... but not that strong

Don't play much straight pool anymore, but I did win a small tournament several years back. My high run (and the only time I can remember keeping score not in that tournament) 25 years ago was 38. I will try to get some practice in, in between practicing 8ball. This should be fun. Thanks for suggesting it.

Do we put modifiers on it, like what table, how big the pockets, in tournament play or practice (not many tournaments around here), etc.?

Also - this is from another straight pool thread from 'the book':

When practicing straight pool how do you start out? The normal starting break is o hit the corner ball and put the cueball back to the head rail. When practicing to get a high run when do you start your count? Would it be beneficial to start out with a key ball break?

Maybe i missed it somewheres, was there an answer given to Linda's questions. Are there some rules or guidelines posted elsewhere?
