2006 AZ Straight Pool Challenge

Yeah, a foot injury was acting up yesterday so I was a spectator for a day. Asked my friend Marty to give TheOne a game. Craig ran a 5, then a 23, and then ran 72 and out, but kept going to see how many more he coud run, and when the smoke cleared, he'd run a 104. Guess I should have introdcued Criaig to Marty sooner!

But Craig left out the best part. Later in the day, when Mike Sigel came in for practice, Mike chatted at length with me, Craig and Nostroke and I mentioned to Mke that Craig had run a 104 earlier in the day. So even Sigel knows of this great feat!

Did you have any peek how Mr. Hook was running 'em ?

Paul came to Cleveland several years ago and stayed with me and Mike Janis, one day we both got in dead stroke. He ran 140 my turn I put a 254 on him, he came back with a 175 my turn 313 which is my high run. Paul you are a great player hope to see you in the future, maybe IPT.

Welcome to the forums, JR. I'm eagerly anticipating you sharing your knowledge.

JR can post some strong numbers in 14..1, and he is definitely one of the best players in the world.

TheOne-

Never mind what this nitwit has to say in terms of correction. He is a pain to say the least. I know him personally and, there isn't a day that goes by that I don't wonder why I still bother talking to him at all. I suppose a part of me just feels bad for the kid because he has no other friends.

Take it easy-
Brian

New to computers, but like pool tring hard, just wanted to share a little bio. born in Ft. Yates N.Dak lived in Mobridge S.Dakota until we moved to Cleve when i was 5, mother german and my father was sioux.Say hi in the future god bless a home boy.

Hey JR. Where are you playing out of? I would like to play some one hole if your interested. Nothing to big maybe 30-100 a game just to work on my game. I play Kenny K 9 to 7 and Harry 9 to 8 so I would need a little something but I am getting back into the game. Let me know

All this talk about the World 14.1 championships as well as getting my Irving Crane DVD from Accu Stats has had me playing 14.1 exclusivley. I haven't played much 9 ball recently and I noticed that it has suffered a bit.

So I had two stellar games this weekend (out of 50 crappy ones :D lol). The first I ran a 62 and when I was up 81-5 I ran 19 and out to win 100-5. I was beaming after that, but the best was yet to come. The very next day I played a another 100 point match.

I break off and he misses his shot.

I make the 4 ball and the play safe.

He plays a poor safety leaving me a cut down the rail.

I make the shot and run 99 and out. There was only one other ball free from the stack shot I shot that in for a run of 100 and then unscrewed my cue and bought a beer or 5.

So I am on cloud 9 right now and probably will be for the next week. Its kinda like when I ran my first rack after that I didn't care how I played and didn't care for a little while longer, I just ran rack! But in this case I ran a bunch of them!:D :D :D :D

The best part though is that I get to say my high run is 100 UNFINISHED.:D

Absolutely!

Nothing to add yourself Bob?
Just as soon as I learn not to shoot easy shots straight into the rail. My problem lately is running out the rack in my mind but not on the table. Focus.

Cameron, I just found this post. Many congrats on running the 100! How did it feel playing that break shot on 97? Pretty nerve-racking I guess!

The last ten balls were nerve racking (hahahahaha, bad pun), because it wasn't until then that I realized what I was doing, I had gone into the zone.

I remember thinking "omigod omigod omigod". I'm surprised I managed it at all lol :D. Nevertheless with 97 balls behind me I felt pretty confident. Unfortunately I didn't break them up too well, some came out hit the rail and came back to the rack. Fortunately I had about three shots available, 2 to win it, and a final one for the 100. It was too bad that I couldn't get to anything else as it would have been nice to run a few more a get a bit further on the list :D, but I am happy with the unfinished status of the run.

Now I just want to do it again. I haven't been able to manage anything close since then, but I am dedicated.

Thanks for the congrats. :), I see your about half way there, I am sure you'll get it soon enough :).

PS I also want to apologize for anyone who had bad luck during that weekend, I kind of used up all of the good luck in the world with that run.:D At one point I missed a break ball shot but the ball went all around the table and was knocked into the pocket I called :D. Thank God you don't have to call the details :D.

I hope so! I took a bit of a break recently but now I'm back playing. I feel I'm stroking it well and just need to tighten up on my pattern play. I'm not concentrating on a high number, or even match scores anymore. My focus is on playing the rack, and the game, the correct way. Everything else will follow from that.

That is a great attitude! Remember that 100 balls is just 7 racks plus a few balls. You won't hit triple digits every single time, but I know that once you hit that century mark the first time, that number won't seem as intimidating anymore. Every one of my 100+ runs was achieved through consistency in what I was doing and what I was trying to accomplish in setting up my break shot/secondary break shots. Of course you are going to need a few good rolls and excellent shotmaking, but that is true with any game. IMO, chasing 7 racks of 14.1 doesn't seem as intimidating as chasing 100 balls, its all in how you look at it and how you pace yourself. Best of luck in your quest for 100!

Well here is the thing. You have a great attitude and philosophy which is as important as anything in pool. Also you have played into the 40's a couple of times (or more) this year so its not like it was a fluke. So in my opinion all you need to do is remain dedicated and you will get there.

Oh yeah and listen to Blackjack, he gives great advice.

Alinco made 55, well done mate

PS
I think you should ban camera's from your US Open warm up event  :D

A lot of great players here!

My ambition is to one day run 100, in straight pool or snooker.

So far my best straight pool run is 59, which I made January 31st this year in a practice match. I missed an easy break shot ... :-(
