2007 WPBA Peoria Dates

WHAT???
does that mean there isnt going to be an event in Peoria in 2007? i thought it was one of the best stops for the tour, lots of fan interest?

i see where they have an open date in the Aug/Sept time frame, hope that turns out to be the Peoria event.

can anyone confirm one way or another whether there is going to be an event in Peoria in 2007?

The following is the tentative schedule for 2007, sent to me on another forum. At this time, I believe it is still subject to change.

Hey, heres the proposed WPBA dates for next year:
Feb. 21 - 25 Rocky Mount, NC
March 21 - 25 Michigan City, IN
April 18 - 22 Alpine, CA
June 27 - July 1 Hollywood, FL
Aug. 1 - 5 Rhode Island -- Pending

Oct. 24 - 28 or Nov. 7 - 11 Lincoln City, OR -- Dates pending site will advise on or before 12-1-06



Notice that Aug.1st-5th,Rhode Island? That is going to be the new US open site,I believe, it is not going to be in Albuequerque
 
well now this really sux!
i didnt go this year, had a couple of things going on. just decided to wait and go again next year. now i find out that there isnt going to be any WPBA Event in Peoria.

I was told that the casino in Peoria did not want to host the event this year.

There will be no more events in Peoria. I see Steve Tipton 4-5 nights a week and he told me that directly.

Ouch, I hope they reconsider.

I can't help but think that this is more fallout from the IPT debacle.

Attendance at this year's Peoria event were, to my eye, by far the lowest ever. Some of the poor attendance could definitely be attributed to the concurrent IPT-event.

Some of it could also have been attributed to the dreadful decision made in 2005 to have so little pool on Saturday and Sunday (??only 6 matches in 2 days for all of the weekend spectators - yukkkk??). Though there was more pool this year on the weekend; I wonder how many spectators opted out with the memory of 2005 fresh in their minds.

Oh well, I guess it's the Michigan City event for me - anyone else planning on attending?
 
Only seven...maybe eight tournaments. If you came in 5th--8th in all of them (not easy for most to do) you get $26400 for the year before taxes and expenses. I think I'd get a job and play on the small tours and local tournaments. Johnnyt

Those may be some of the reasons for Peoria Willie but attendance was off at every WPBA event this year by my eye. Oregon may be an exception- i wasn't there.

Everyone loves to say how much the WPBA is growing but i think it is more of a perception than a reality. 10 Years ago there was 12 events and not too long before that 16. Now they are struggling to get 7. I'm not criticizing the WPBA- they have managed to hang on when others haven't but things are not good in any pool business that i know. Pool rooms, tournaments, sticks are all off from what i see and hear and the IPT situation sure doesn't help. I have no doubt we will be back better than ever but right now things seem pretty sad.

I think a lot of Sarah Rousey fans would be greatly disappointed, not being able to cheer Sarah on in her home turf so to speak:(

With the new appointed president, who seems to have an extensive experience with landing sponsorship, I hope there will be more money and more events for the players.

Let's not forget that 2006 was the year you didn't have to attend a WPBA event to see the top ladies play. The current top four, meaning Allison Fisher, Karen Corr, Kelly Fisher and Monica Webb all played the IPT tour, temporarily neutralizing the WPBA's near monopoly on the world's greatest female players.

In addition, let's not forget that Peoria draws many of its fans from the Chicago area, where an IPT event was scheduled to take place a few months after WPBA Peoria. I'm sure many figured: "Why attend a women's only event when I can see both the top men and the top women at the same time a few months later?"

If Peoria is a casualty of the IPT, and perhaps it is, it is not because IPT Las Vegas was played the same week but because the IPT, having access to the elite in women's pro pool, temporarily reduced the quality of the WPBA product.

As the IPT has gone up in smoke now, the quality of the WPBA proudct is now what it used to be, and given the fact that the right management team, led by the exceptional Linda Chen, is in place, I believe good times lie ahead for the WPBA.

Through good management, the WPBA has persisted through the good times and the bad times. It has enjoyed steady growth for thirty years, testament to the quality of its leadership and business model.

Guess what I'm saying is "have a little faith."
 
The reasons for not getting the contracts renewd may some times could be for simple reasons such as changes in the management teams of those casinos.
I watched 4 or 5 US opens at sandia casino in Albuquerque, NM and I always enjoyed it but Sandia did not renew the contract for 2007.
