General Rules

The Dress Code is informal but players are requested to maintain a smart appearance ? no headwear, sleeveless shirts, or short pants.

Players are enjoined and expected to play the qualifying matches in a fair and sportsmanlike way. Any dispute must be referred to the Duty Referee (one for every three tables) or the Tournament Control Desk..

Check-In Times for each event are as follows:

Saturday, Oct. 27
Event 1 @ 08:30 am
Event 2 @ 13:00 pm

Sunday, Oct. 28
Event 3 @ 08:30 am
Event 4 @ 13:00 pm

Monday, Oct. 29
Event 5 @ 08:30 am
Event 6 @ 13:00 pm

Tuesday, Oct. 30

When players are called by the Control Desk, they must report within five minutes. Failure to do so will incur a one-rack forfeit. After a further five minutes they will lose a further rack and then five minutes later they will forfeit the match.

No timeouts are allowed, but a player may take one toilet break. They may only leave the table at the end of a rack that they have won. This break should be as brief as possible. Should you require a further break during the match then you must obtain permission from the Duty Referee or the Control Desk. Failure to observe these rules will mean FORFEIT of the next rack with the break passing back to the opponent.

All matches are lag for break/alternate breaks thereafter.

Players can only use the cues that they bring to the table before their match commences. Jump cues (minimum 1 mtr. long) and break cues may be used but they mustbe with you when you first come to the table.

Scorecards must be completed and signed by both players. It is the responsibility of the winning player to ensure that the result is recorded at the Control Desk.

A million peso for 1st place won by Jeffrey De Luna is about 18K US$. Second place paid half of that. WPC '07 is a bigger event than last year. Hope it continues to be held in Philippines until next year. I pray a lot so that it will be held in sunny Cebu City. ;)

It's actually closer to $22,700 with the current rate of exchange. The Philippine peso has gained on the dollar.

I know Jay, I was just conservative. :D The Thai Baht, Indian Rupee and The Philippine Peso are the strongest Asian Currency gainers YTD.

Don't you forget the stuff that you need to bring. It's flying time soon.

Back to topic. Still no results for Qualifier 3 and 4. No official news either for Gabica being in and Shawn Putnam's withdrawal. I'm off to work soon.

Going Gaga over Gaga!!! :D

Show them you deserve this wildcard call.

Do anybody still remember when Gaga Gabica lost to Double J (Jeremy
Jones) in the 1st round of last year's US 9-Ball Open and racked up 10 or
(11?) wins in a row before bowing out of the competition? He made a good
account of himself and proceeded to win 2 gold medals in the Asian Games.

I really feel that this year will be the year of the underdogs, and Gaga,
Jeff De Luna, and Roberto "Superman" Gomez has a good chance to upset
the apple cart...

Check that out for qualifier news.

Day Two: Ko Pin-Yi and Wu Yu-Lun from Taiwan.

The three time World Junior Champion Wu Yu-Lun drew a lot of attention from the crowds both yesterday (he made the semis yesterday) and today. Definitely a player to watch out for in the future. He meets Archer in the main draw and I'm pretty sure he'll be a handful for the old US vet.

(Three-time Junior World Champion Wu Yu-Lun)

Two Taiwanese 18-year-olds, Ko Pin-yi and Wu Yu-lun, won Qualifiers 3
and 4 at the Star Billiards Center on Sunday to secure spots in the main
draw of the 2007 Philippines World Pool Championship on November 3-11 at
the Araneta Coliseum.

The duo emerged in two thrilling all-Taiwanese finals of the qualifying
tournament. Ko bested Lu Hsun-cheng 9-7 in Event 3. While Wu,
three-time world junior champion, won over Chien Ching-ju in a hill-hill
battle.

Filipino players again failed to make a dent on the Taiwanese onslaught,
although they improved their performance somewhat by entering the
semifinals of both qualifiers.

In Event 3, Roberto Gomez and Ruel Esquillo contested the semifinals
against the Taiwanese players. But both lost heartbreakers to their
opponents -- Gomez to Ko by the score of 7-5, and Esquillo to Lu by 7-6.

The same pattern also marked Event 4. Warren Kiamco and Dondon
Ranzalan entered the semifinals and lost to their Taiwanese opponents-
Kiamco to Chien by the score of 7-4, and Ranzalan to Wu by 7-6.

Significantly, Wu and Ko finished first and second in the World Junior Pool
Championship in Sydney, Australia last year.

Ko, nicknamed "The Prince of Pool" in his native country, will now enter
Group 5 of the main tournament. He will face 2003 world champion
Thorsten Hohmann in his opening match on Monday, November 5.

Wu, on the other hand, will be joining Group 15. He will play Johnny Archer
of the United States in his opening match on Tuesday, November 6.

Chinese Taipei has now won three of four qualifiers in the ongoing
qualifying round of the 2007 WPC. There are six more qualifiers left to be
contested.

Yes i really hope that it will be held here in sunny Cebu City..hehehe

Why not? we have now our own Convention Center who host just recently a qualifying event for the world chess championship. Not to mention of
course the many quality hotels here and the beaches and many historical sites and dried mango, danggit and otap :D

By the way, finally 'Gaga' is accepted to the WPC. I think he deserves it, after winning this year's Philippine Open with Efren, Alcano, Orcollo, Bustamante and the like..and of course last year's asian games 9 ball gold medal and silver on 8-ball i think he more than deserves a ticket to the WPC.

And my prayer is answered..hehehe
