Judging by past events, checks have been fine as long as they are received at All-Star Billiards by no later than the Wednesday preceding the event.

Definitely could have used some music yesterday. I'll check with the management on getting the tunes going for Dec 3rd.

To answer a question on the length of the races, it may be possible to play 8 winners/6 one loss instead of the advertised 7/5. It will be based on the number of players and the TD's decision on the day of the event.

Thanks I will send the check tomorrow

The AZ tournament section is really active. Bumping it up for those who haven't seen this yet.

Ive called All-Star 3 times. First time they said it already went by. Second time he said that he doesnt know of any tournament coming up on the 3rd. Third time I called he said that he still didnt know.

Its a long drive for me but I might make the trip. I wanted to make sure there are open spots left and also what chance there would be of it being a one day event. Ive got another tournament on Sunday.

Is this tournament still on? I cant see sending an entry fee to a room unaware of a tournament with only a week left.

I would trust cuefan. If he says there will be an event on the third you can take that to the bank.

I was also at All-Star for the recent 10-ball tournament and the owner, Peggy Nicholson, announced the event for Dec. 3, so I think you should be OK.

I'm not questioning cuefans integrity. I'm sure there's a tournament but I would like some additional information. Is the tournament a 1 day event? Are there still openings for the event? I hope I get to make it. I've been to All-Star Billiards in the past and its a very nice place with fantastic service.

I am sure they will have spots. I have never paid early for an event there and have always been able to get in on Game Day and I only live 45 minutes away.

You should be in good shape.

I did not mean to insinuate you were questioning cuefan's integrity.
I was merely emphasizing his reliability.

Sorry for any confusion on the part of the person answering the phone. This 9-ball tournament was discussed and set up directly with the room owner at the recent All-Star 10-ball event. It was then posted here at AZ and on All-Star's Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/AllStarBilliards). I will re-confirm with All-Star and post the results tomorrow.

It will be a one day event. Entries as in past years are first-come, first-served. The recent 10-ball event came close to filling the 64 player maximum so it might be good to be there when the doors open at 10 a.m. to be sure to be entered. As an example, two very strong players with a legitimate shot at winning could not play this event in a recent year since they arrived after the 64 player limit was reached.

I just spoke with the room owner. They were surprised that any employee did not know of this tournament since all staff members were informed about it and a sign-up sheet posted by the telephone. They want to be sure to let everyone know that the Maryland State 9-Ball Championship is definitely on for this Saturday.

I'm thinking about playing, but I'm concerned that a large field would result in a long downtime between matches. I'd be bringing my wife with me (not a pool player), and don't want to subject her to a huge amount of sitting around, and nobody enjoys spending all day going 2-and-out. Since I've never been there, can anyone confirm there will be enough tables (relative to the likely size of the field) to keep the tournament moving?

Also, is this a smoky room, or is there a separate area away from the tables for smoking?

The tournament is on...Cuefan has the latest info on that matter.

All Star Billiards will be closing for good on 31 December of this year...very sad to see another room close. Make this tournament a good one, for all of the memories.

As for the smoking, All Star, and ALL Maryland restaurant/pool rooms, are smoke-free...no worries there...all smoking is outside.

All Star is also one of the few pool rooms that actually have adequate, comfortable seating, plenty of small tables, etc to insure a good, comfortable time.

I had my pro-shop (mostly a display case, in recent years) in All Star ever since around 2000. It is now closed.

Come on out and show your appreciation one last time for a really nice place to hang out and play pool.

Joe

There is gonna be some waiting...but there are 15+ tables.

I believ it is non-smoking.
