2014 US Open 9-Ball Championship: 128-player field, $1,000 entry fee

Does reducing the field to 128 also reduce the number of days it takes to hold the event?

If so, there's a real savings in hotel and meal expenses. Could be close to a wash.

But then, Joey, you wouldn't have the U.S. Open Championship title to put on your portfolio. Most of the pros that do go to Norfolk are gunning for that title. :grin-square:

Money spends but a championship title lasts forever. :)

I ''Was'' planning on going this year, I'll just do 2015 DCC instead....Like Joey said, rather take a flyer and work it from there. I could easily take two road trips to TX and enjoy myself just as much.

Many on here know me. I am a strong amateur with family/job. I play regionally and only am able to attend 1-2 pro events per year. I've played the open four times and finished 17th, 25th, 33rd, and 33rd. All times I covered expenses. All times I beat 1-3 champions.

However, all times I also got 1-2 matches that were weaker as well.

I already sat last year out due to the seeding. I give up spots locally, but I'm not in favor of giving an easier draw to players that are stronger than me already. That cuts my 'break even likelihood' up front. But with a 1k entry I can't see anyone weaker than me entering.

Ironically, for $500 i still might take a shot and BE the dead money, but like the others that seems silly when I could wait for derby instead.

In general I like bigger entries due to travel costs, but I will have to sit this one out. Not complaining, Barry can run his tourney how he wants, and I hope it helps. Just sharing my experience for feedback.

Thanks for sharing.

Funny how Barry caters to players like you by paying out so deep, but is ignorant to the fact that with a $1,000 entry, players like you aren't going to play.

So in that case, since it's only going to be professionals, he should just pay fewer spots and give more to 1st. He wants an elite tournament. That's cool, but the winner should get an elite payday.
