2014 World 9-Ball Championship

Its how he is not world champion calibre...

No, they say he is not yet a "World Champion". I don't know of anyone on AZB who says SVB is not "world calibre". I am pretty sure everyone here knows SVB is one of the elite players on this planet.

Your right. The longer race favors the better player ...I would be happier to see longer races and even winner break, as I'm sure the players would as well. But that isn't going to happen in this tournament. so..LOL..all you want. What we get to see is free, enjoy it now....it is great camera work.

yes, but what I'm saying is that in 1999 the WPA World 9-Ball Championship was won by Nick Varner.

Matchroom also had another event called the World Professional Pool Championship that Efren won. Why is Efren a world 9-ball Champion when he didn't win THE so called WPA world 9-ball championship, yet Shane isn't given credit for the 2007 World 10-Ball Championship when it was THE ONLY one played that year? Had the WPA and UPA come to an agreement just like the WPA and Matchroom did in 1999 then Shane WOULD have a world title just like Efren was given this one.

all the focus on a "title"....

I could be wrong here, but I think Shane was on the team that won the 1994 World Series.....

WORLD CHAMPION!!!!!

This thread will get even more interesting once the "Who Will Be The Final Four" puzzle gets started on Thursday the 26th starting at 11AM local/1AM PST/4AM EST

Exactly. There never was a world champion until the world tournament was created right? It's what I was talking about when I described this argument as silly. And how they gloss over the US open or Derby city like it's a small tour stop. Absurd. A major is a major. Plain and simple.

Was buddy hall a world champion? Oh yeah, he never won in China, so I guess not. Ha!

A major is not a world championship, and golf is not pool.

I don't remember the year - but I believe it was around 2007-2008 - that 10-Ball became a recognized game by the WPA. (The first World event was held in 2008 and won by Darren Appleton - according to WPA archives.)

Until then there could not have been any kind of World recognition. Just like One Pocket is now. It is not a recognized game by the WPA.

IF you are referring to the 'event' held in Jacksonville, I don't think that could qualify as any kind of World Championship. It was in a pool room with a very small field. It was another of Charlie's marketing moves.

BTW - the recognition of 10-Ball by WPA changed the landscape quite a bit. Yen Makabenta promoted a couple of events in Philippines - with very mixed payout results. Matchroom quit doing the World 9-Ball partly because of the confusion of a 10-ball event.

Also the world economy tanked - so it is difficult to really know what was the major factor - but the new discipline of 10-ball was a major part of the changes.

no, YOU are clearly not getting it. This was the ONLY 10-Ball World Championship in 2007. There wasn't a WPA 10-Ball world Championship, this was THE World Championship for that year. Biggest 10-Ball tourney on the planet. And where did I say that the field that year was as good as the one this year? Oh, that's right I didn't.

No, there are some here who think Shane is not as good because he only wins in America. Like winning a world nine ball championship will make him a world beater. Hes been doing that for years already.

And then after he wins one of their "world championships", the same people will say he hasn't won two so he is not as good. And on and on..

Good then we can look forward to you coming back to defend him then, I can't wait !

You're the only one who said that, by the way. ;)

Way to ignore my point in showing how obvious the notion that you are only a world champion if you won a wpa tournament is foolishly wrong.

According to the naysayers...
Buddy hall, no wpa win....shane, no wpa win....Not world champions...Henrik Larsson has the first wpa win, he of course it's world champion.

yes Mark, but what I'm saying is that while obviously the event in 2007 didn't have as strong of a field, it WAS the biggest 10-ball event for that year. Had the WPA fused with the UPA to have a unified World 10-Ball, just like they did with Matchroom in 1999 after they both put on a so called "world championship" then Shane would be given credit for a world 10-ball title. Just like Efren was. How can there be 2 world champions in the same year?

If you win a gold medal but it's not in the Olympics are you an Olympic Gold Medalist.
I think not. Glad to see your finally getting it ! Goooood !!!

So now it's the Olympics??? Haha, you guys are really reaching now. But I'll play along.
Are you the best in the world if you win the Olympic gold in tennis but lose the French, Australian, us opens and Wimbledon?
Likewise, if you sweep all the majors in tennis but lose the Olympic gold that year, are you not a world champion?

Thanks for proving my point.
