2014 World 9-Ball Championship

Below is the text of the article in case it suddenly vanishes...

Big Lumber Hitting the Ground at World 9-Ball
Jerry Forsyth
Jun. 20, 2014

The group stages are almost over at the World 9-Ball Championships and, as usual, there have been some surprising results. Shane Van Boening is out of the field after losing to Matthew Edwards of New Zealand 9-7 and then falling to Jundel Mazon of the Philippines 9-5. Shane was in the same group as Chris Melling and Melling did not complete the trip either. Melling lost in the first match to Jundel Mazon and then fell 9-6 to Malaj Nikolaos.

Niels Feijen is also out of the field as he lost to Aki Heiskanen 9-4 and then got nipped 9-8 by Naoyuki Oi. Two other popular Europeans are also on the way to the airport as neither Mark Gray nor Albin Ouschan could get through the field. They are hardly alone. Also sidelined for the remainder of this event are Dennis Grabe, Hunter Lombardo, and Oliver Ortmann.

There is no play on Friday as it is the Sabbath in Qatar. Play will resume on Saturday and we will bring you the draw for the final rounds as soon as we receive the list.

Duh-There's a 36 hour time difference!!!

:)

The article has been taken down. I got up and went to the brackets before I had enough coffee and wrote a story off of last year's brackets. Did not realize it till the third cup opened my eyes.

Sorry bout that!

1st you scared the hill out of me about SVB loosing, and that i missed the stream?? Man!! thank God it was a day dream!!

during the preliminaries the head of Kozoom production team asked we sent thankful emails to Qatar Federation (qbsf[at]qbsf[dot]qa).
Let's do that so the sheikhs repeat their good deed next time

I think an article about what you did the previous evening might be interesting.

Man it is a coin toss who is going to win it, but for some reason or another, i feel SVB been out of country for at least a month or so, he probably gotten used to it by now, and will do some damage this time, i hope, i do fear Chang Jung Lin , KO, Dennis Orcollo, Biado, and not to forget Mika! sorry Efren! your train has passed..
Yes a whole bunch of elite players will win it. Shane is one favorites but I do not see him winning it. :)
IMHO, it will be the KO brothers who will KO them all - my guess is baby Ko Ping Chung will snatch it this year- if baby KO wins he will create many records like 2nd teenager to win, one of few qualifiers to ever win and first to simultaneously hold World Junior and World Championship
The kid is fearless, awesome he is on a roll and he can beat any one (yes including Shane) . If this is winners break he has better chance cos he is the Packman. At last year's US Open 10 ball he was creating waves when he put together pack of 8 or 9. Read somewhere that he won Taiwan National championship recently beating his bro Pin Yi. And I think this kid winning or getting close will be good for game- who knows it may draw more young kids to play the game :D.

Ha, funny! That was a tough piece to read. Looking forward to tomorrow.

(And man am I ignorant, I didn't realize that Islam has a sabbath and it's on Friday.)

EDIT: This has been corrected.

The article is still up in the latest related story section under the "current and upcoming tournaments" section for WPA World 9-Ball Championship 2014.

Looks like you need to finish 9th -16th or better to make your expenses with maybe a a little left over.

Probably why I stayed home. :D:embarrassed2::D

i think if they win 2 matches that puts them in the final 64 and they have a redraw

This whole tournament is a group of death and it will take one of the great ones to win it.

Established superstars Ko Pinyi, Wu Jiaqing, Carlo Biado, JL Chang, Alex Pagulayan, and newly crowned China Open champion YL Chang all were absent at the US Open 9-ball event.

Wu Jiaqing and Ko Pin Yi did, however, attend, the US Open 10-ball event and both had a higher finish than Van Boening.

I'll be rooting for Shane to break through in this event. It's time to do something about American futility in WPA World Championships overseas and Shane who, impressively, got to the quarterfinals of the China Open, appears to be a man in form.

Good luck to all who vie for the title.
