2015 China Open 9ball (2-5 July2015) Shanghai

What's the purse on this thing?

Edit: Silly me. I just went to the site. For men it's $195,200, with $40,000 going to the winner, and for the women it's $138,000, with $32,000 going to the winner. Is there a big fan base for pool in China or what?
When I was there in 2006, the head of the Shanghai Billiard Association told me there were 500 Pool venues in Shanghai with 15 or more tables.

Snooker tables were on the decline, in favor of US 9 foot tables. In Beijing, more play 8 ball on 9 foot snooker tables.

The sport has been growing steadily since then and the major broadcasters like the sport, so more and more events are being produced.

Last time I visited, my old English student and occasional playing partner Pan Xiao Ting had her face plastered over thousands of buses around Shanghai. So yes, I'd say it's pretty popular over there.

Colin <- Wo ai da qiu (I love hit ball)

Wow what a field, i was not able to watch any matches. Good luck to our local guys Jason klatt and John morra.

What's the update as of now and when does the stream start tonight? 1:30 am EST??

no worries. Shane will win the US Open and then he'll be the best in the world again.

Shane got in a little while ago, none too pleased with the set up in China. Alternate break 9-Ball with big pockets does not suit him. He said the wing ball went every time.

Just got back from dinner, a little steak and lobster made Shano a happy camper. He's headed back home in the morning and will be at the BCA on July 20 for the duration. He told me he'll be playing a Challenge match with Dechaine for U.S. supremacy! :D

Ehh, there always seems to be an excuse and TBH it is getting a little old. Foreign country, does not speak the language, food is different, time difference, ect... The thing is though, there are many Europeans who manage to go over there and adjust and do damage. Two Canadians that most people would admit do not have Shane's skills or experience managed to fight through to the final 32, one beating SVB himself.

Those excuses are the same for a lot of players who tour over there to compete, but they seem to "really" affect SVB more than they do any of the other elite players. Appleton, Feijen, Nick VDB, Morra, Klatt, there are a lot of players who traveled a long way to get over there that are managing to do OK despite all those reasons they could have lost and went running back home.

SVB is going to have to suck it up eventually and go over there and do what he is capable of doing or else he is going to be the best pool player who was never able to win any of the major overseas events with full fields of the world's best.

Enough with the reasons for losing every freaking time he makes the trip over there...

Hmm that is quite bizarre since Shane himsrlf doesn't like tight tables opposed to most other pros
He states numerous times that he likes the standard 4.5 inch pockets because tighter pockets take away certain shots and mean less packages
He says this on tar interviews and other places
He is renowned for having a great break but also rigging the rack and people don't like the fact he always makes wing ball
Therefore those conditions are to his advantage
And alternate break even more so levels the field

I agree with Celtic
Svb needs to prove a point
I know he has the ability
World masters I thought would be the turning point but obviously not
People don't expect him to win but to not make the top 32 is got to be below par

I will bet for Francisco Díaz! I competed with him last weekend and he is in a very good form, current 9ball euro champion., 2º in 10ball, 3º in 14.1 ... sadly not very well known in the US

Greenie sent. I believe the correct term is "paper champion"?

Obviously, you are correct here but I'll give Shane credit for continuing to do battle against the world's most elite fields. I feel strongly he'll break through and win one of these full field WPA titles at some point.

Shane really has had a pretty forgettable year on the nine footers to this point in 2015, 9th at the DCC 9-ball, 3rd at the SBE 10-ball, two events that he won in 2014. Of course, he won the US 9-ball barbox title and prevailed on the ten footer in the Bigfoot 10-ball Challenge.

Shane is still America's very best by quite a bit, and I'm looking for him to find his best form very soon. That said, though, the reduction in the number of events played on 9-footers in America won't help him prepare for the World Pool Masters, the World Cup of Pool, the US Open 9-ball or the Mosconi Cup, let alone full field WPA events like the World 9-ball Championship or the WPA All Japan Championships.

The overseas WPA championships have tougher fields than we ever see in America and offer far less room for error.

He might, but he needs to stop blaming his poor performances on stuff and realize that he is losing because the other guy is shooting better that day, period. The last thing he needs is these excuses on why he lost and "yes men" enabling this type of attitude.

SVB is never going to win over there if he keeps going over there, gets flustered and finds reasons to lose; and he is never going to win over there if he has people always giving him the pat on the back and telling him "it is ok, you are still the best, they cannot beat you in a race to 100! Just win another US Open, it is OK."

If he wants to be the champion he likely wants to be he is going to need to shake all of the monkey's on his back off, get over there, and start dominating these things like he does the US Open.

What the hell.
Is anyone watching right now at exactly 2:13 am New York? Who is translating these pages men. I have not even been able to seen a loading screen for this thing, I must have like 9 links open at home for god knows what and two here at work that's only a black screen WTF

I am currently watching the live stream between Corteza vs Chang Jung Lin via this link:

http://www.zhangyu.tv/119216

There is no audio though but the stream has been trouble free so far. Do you have adblock? If yes, then disable it so you can view the live stream.

:( Bad news for the Taiwanese team. The 2 Changs (Jung Lin and Yu Lung) have both been eliminated along with both Ko brothers.

Think you meant Chang, Yang is not in this event.

true it's Chang Jung Lin.

Yang Ching Shun made a come back this time, but he could not qualify from the 3-day qualifying round.

qualifying round is tough, each day around 128 players play consecutive knock out matches until last men standing (2 for each first 2 days and 4 for the third day). so 8 from qualifying round get through to group stage.
