Here are the final records for the 2015 Mosconi Cup.

Scoring the way it counts, by matches:
  • Day 1 -- USA 2, Europe 3
  • Day 2 -- USA 2, Europe 3
  • Day 3 -- USA 2, Europe 3
  • Day 4 -- USA 1, Europe 2
  • Total -- 7 - 11

Scoring by games rather than matches:
  • Day 1 -- USA 17, Europe 20
  • Day 2 -- USA 18, Europe 22
  • Day 3 -- USA 17, Europe 21
  • Day 4 -- USA 13, Europe 14
  • Total -- 65 - 77

Individual players' records. For the following records, I counted a full win or loss for each player in each match (i.e., not splitting the point into fifths for the teams match or halves for doubles matches). So these numbers essentially answer the question: "In how many winning and losing matches was each player involved?"

Team USA

  • • Van Boening ..... 1-2 singles, 2-1 doubles, 1-0 teams, 4-3 total (winning percentage of 57%)

    • Deuel ..... 1-0 singles, 0-3 doubles, 1-0 teams, 2-3 total (40%)

    • Dechaine ..... 0-1 singles, 1-2 doubles, 1-0 teams, 2-3 total (40%)

    • Bergman ..... 1-2 singles, 1-1 doubles, 1-0 teams, 3-3 total (50%)

    • Woodward ..... 0-2 singles, 2-1 doubles, 1-0 teams, 3-3 total (50%)

    Team USA Total ..... 3-7 singles, 6-8 doubles, 5-0 teams, 14-15 total (48%)

Team Europe

  • • Feijen ..... 3-0 singles, 1-1 doubles, 0-1 teams, 4-2 total (67%)

    • Appleton ..... 1-1 singles, 1-2 doubles, 0-1 teams, 2-4 total (33%)

    • Van den Berg ..... 0-1 singles, 1-2 doubles, 0-1 teams, 1-4 total (20%)

    • Boyes ..... 1-1 singles, 3-0 doubles, 0-1 teams, 4-2 total (67%)

    • Ouschan ..... 2-0 singles, 2-1 doubles, 0-1 teams, 4-2 total (67%)

    Team Europe Total ..... 7-3 singles, 8-6 doubles. 0-5 teams, 15-14 total (52%)

Another way of looking at the records is to count a full point for each player in a singles win or loss, half a point for each player in a doubles win or loss, and one-fifth of a point for each player in a team win or loss. So the following numbers essentially answer the question: "What numerical contribution did each player make to the overall Mosconi Cup match scores?"

Team USA

  • • Van Boening ..... 2.2 - 2.5 (winning percentage of 47%)
    • Deuel ..... 1.2 - 1.5 (44%)
    • Dechaine ..... 0.7 - 2.0 (26%)
    • Bergman ..... 1.7 - 2.5 (40%)
    • Woodward ..... 1.2 - 2.5 (32%)

    Team USA Total ..... 7 - 11 (39%)

Team Europe

  • • Feijen ..... 3.5 - 0.7 (83%)
    • Appleton ..... 1.5 - 2.2 (41%)
    • Van den Berg ..... 0.5 - 2.2 (19%)
    • Boyes ..... 2.5 - 1.2 (68%)
    • Ouschan ..... 3.0 - 0.7 (81%)

    Team Europe Total ..... 11 - 7 (61%)

Through all 4 days of the 2015 Mosconi Cup, 142 games were played. Counting half a point for each player in a doubles win or loss (so the totals will add to 142), here are the individual records for games won and lost (including the 9 games played in the teams match):

Van Boening ..... 17 - 20 (winning percentage of 46%)
Deuel ..... 9.5 - 12.5 (43%)
Dechaine ..... 10.5 - 12 (47%)
Bergman ..... 15 - 17 (47%)
Woodward ..... 13 - 15.5 (46%)
USA Total ..... 65 - 77 (46%)

Feijen ..... 20 - 14 (59%)
Appleton ..... 13 - 13 (50%)
Van den Berg ..... 10 - 14 (42%)
Boyes ..... 17.5 - 13 (57%)
Ouschan ..... 16.5 - 11 (60%)
EUR Total ..... 77 - 65 (54%)

Four of the Team Europe players won 50% or more of their games; no Team USA player did. Boyes had the highest winning percentage (just barely); Van den Berg had the lowest (again, just barely).

Thanks AtLarge. One thing about the American team that stands out to me - there was a lot of consistency. In the games won % they're all within a few points of 45%. And in the match points method, where you'd expect more volatility, you still have a good amount of consistency compared to Europe. There weren't really any obvious weak links - or standouts - among the Americans.

You got Deuel and Dechaine wrong. Corey was 0-3 in doubles and Dechaine was 1-2 (he lost with Woodward and Deuel).

So Deuel was 1.2 - 1.5 (Deuel had the 2nd best record for U. S.)

Dechaine was 0.7 - 2 (Dechaine had the worst record for U. S.)

Thanks for spotting that -- I put that doubles loss in the wrong "D" column on my worksheet. I have edited Post #1 accordingly. Let me know if you spot anything else.

At Large, you deserve a gold medal for all the stats you bring us. I have gained a ton of useful knowledge from your previous stats postings over the years and appreciate it a lot.

Thanks; I appreciate your interest.

Would be interested in seeing any break related stats (e.g., dry break %, BnR single/team).

It looks like 9 on the spot, triangle racked, no re-rack caused a lot of break issues. A lot of dry breaks.
