2016 US Open 9 ball/ 9ft (16-22 Oct2016) Norfolk, Virginia (Winner $50K)

1-ball in side on 7 of 10 breaks (but 2 were illegal)

Have you been keeping the illegal break stat through all matches? Just curious because I know you record stats on these matches, and it would be interesting to see what percentage were "illegal breaks."

a whole lotta nothing happening so far... safety battle with lots of moderately good shots that don't leave anything but don't lock the opponent down.

finally Alcaide leaves Dennis a shot, he runs to the 6-7 which are tied up. He used extreme inside English on his shot on the 4 to get on the opposite side of the 5, stunned the cue ball to break up the 6/7 across the table, and then made a combination on the 7. Nice out.

Alcaide is examining his rack so presumably they will both be signing off on racks for this match.

Dennis had a couple close calls on position for rack 2 but made short work of it. 2-0.

The announcers are telling us that Dennis is very focused and practices a lot. I'm not sure why that's worth mentioning for one of the final few competitors in the US Open.

Dennis made the 1 in the side on rack 3 but had an illegal break. He left David 9 feet away from the 2 ball on the far rail and David gave it back to him. Dennis whiffed on the 2 trying to feather it and gave David BIH.

The 9 ball is blocking the 7's path down the rail, David passes up a chance to break it up but then messes up the path to the combination. After almost dogging a 4 that was practically in the jaws he played to the 7 and is forced to play a stop shot safe behind the 8 ball. Dennis makes contact and leaves David a shot on the 7, but then David under-draws to a tiny positional spot and he misses the 8.

Dennis up 3-0. Alcaide is not looking comfortable on the table.

Dennis makes the 1 in the side and then a really nice long shot on the 2 jacked up on the rail. Easy run out from there, 4-0.

Awesome performance by SVB to win 11-5 and on track to play Dennis . Now that must be first time they met since John French saga. Fireworks :D

Next up Dennis Orcollo v David Alcaide

Shane beat Dennis in a loser's side match at 4 Bears last month.

And in case anyone was wondering, David Alcaide pronounces his name:

dah BEED al ka EE deh

And yes, I simply asked him.

Yes, beginning Tuesday afternoon.

The American in me roots for Shane to add another US Open title to his belt. My heart roots for Shaw who has improved his game so much from just a year ago.

My brain roots for Chang who out of everyone left (and maybe the entire tournament) has the strongest mental game.

Dennis made three balls on the break but also scratched (so I suppose that's 4 balls on the break). Alcaide gets weird on the 8 and has to use the bridge but runs out.

Announcer: "These guys are professionals." Wait, I thought they were barroom bangers?
