Johnny archer must be a joke. He's tried his luck plenty of times.
No player is good to be the coach, way to much conflict of interest then. They would. Ultimately like in the past pick thier buddies as the captains picks, to give them the free handout of money.

I agree with you, Junpin Joe 100%.
If a person has never played team sports,
then he or she probably doesn't understand why a player simultaneously should NOT be a coach.
You said it perfectly, "conflict of interest" in so many ways.

On that note: I avoid pool tournaments where any TD (or any of his/her staff)
are also playing in the same tournament.
I don't like it one bit-but usually you don't know this until after the tourney has begun.
The TD/staff/player becomes biased, whether they will admit it or not.

I'm with you on Rodney...throughout this year's event, he's been "Mr. Positive"! I loved how he played the crowd after his singles win against Shaw. Father time may have caught up with him a bit with vision...but he's got my vote as both captain and player. (Not that my vote matters worth a tinker's dam.)

If this was a real National team where the captain/coach really mattered and we could get anybody we wanted I would say it was time to turn outward and I would get Steve Davis to help us out. Of course that would never happen.

In the real world I think Jay would be a good choice. Sounds like he has some good ideas but ultimately unless Matchroom can change the system a bit and allow for the selection of the team more than a few weeks in advance I'm not so sure the coach can really do much to prepare the team and change the outcome.

The coach won't make a bit of difference.

UNLESS, the coach worked with a bunch of 15 year olds daily for 5 years, and made them the new team.

Our current crop of players can't touch the Europeans, if the Pool God himself was their coach. The only chance we have is to develop the teens.

I said in another thread that Jeremy Jones would be a good pick. He knows what the pressure is like and is thoughtful about the strategy and tactics.

Earl would be horrible. He'd end up being a distraction and what the players need is a way to find focus.
