Lmao a U.S. Open championship limited to 40 players... Good one.

Patiently waiting for someone to come tell me I'm a hater and at least he's doing something for pool/players.

This is a week after the Super Billiards Expo and a 4 hour drive away from each other, I'm sure more than 40 people would be interested in playing in this.

Straight pool

The just completed American straight pool- with a $40,000 prize fund (with a full field) ended up with 42 players. This event has been going on for 15-20 years.

Our event last year (about 2 days after SBE) - ended up with 20 players.
The 'World straight pool' event got 48 players ( I think).

So, even though it sounds like a small number, we are going for some quality in the field. Every player will get a minimum of 4 matches.

And obviously this is on 9' tables. The room (Pool Table Magic) is a first class venue. Gold Crown tables, Simonis 860, aramith super pro balls.

Their are two hotels within 1000 feet of the pool room. Last year double occupancy (with breakfast) was $67.00 per night. Best deal in the country.

Hope the straight pool players will respect the event. It's a no nonsense USOpen Championship.

Us open 14.1

Qualifiers will be held in various rooms around the country. We'll announce them as they are firmed up.

In the old days it was limited to 32. Most of the entrants were winners of qualifiers.

As far as many of today's internet fans are concerned, pool started about 5-8 years ago, when 10-ball was invented.

The other week, one of my teammates (an APA SL-7 in 8-ball) asked me if I know of that movie with Paul Newman and Tom Cruise. He seriously thought that Pool Hall Junkies is the movie that "started it all."

Freddie <~~~ hooray for the very first ever US Open 14.1 Championship

Mark, thank you for not adopting an event from the past and claiming it's history as your own.

Will there be a ref at each table during the semi finals?

What rule will be in effect in case a player calls one ball but then shoots another?

LOL Bob ... but in the old days it seemed like there were only a dozen people who could win. Today .... everybody is a champeeeen!

Well, these days you see some people who have never played a tournament match of 14.1 run 200 balls. It does make you wonder what the level of play would be if a third of the tournaments were straight pool and all the top players played it regularly.

In the old days the champions all came from about 5 states and there wasn't a foreigner who could hit the end rail with three tries. Except maybe George Chenier, the Canadian.
