2022 World Cup of Pool Draw: Thoughts and Predictions Thread

I think that having a celebrity or two in attendance helps lend some credibility to events as being "big deals," but it's also nice to see MR promote pool's own "celebrities."

One thing I like about MR's approach is how they spotlight the pros in the audience in between their own matches. And they give them chances to commentate throughout events.

Jayson Shaw and Chris Melling are both naturals in the booth, as are Kelly and Allison Fisher. Heck, pretty much all of the European pros are good, including Niels and Albin, who doesn't say a lot but knows how to pick the right spots to add insight. Thank goodness for JJ, otherwise the Americans would be utterly outclassed even in commentary.
I dunno, I wouldn't mind seeing MR give "Grady Seasons" a shot at commentary. With his immense knowledge and sense of humor, it sure wouldn't be a nightmare.

what a heartbreak for greece. another moment that may haunt kazakis for a while there. hill-hill vs taiwan, safed, decides on jumping on a shot in the middle pocket that doesn't seem jumpable, makes it and scratches down the rail.. ouch.

nikos played clutch, looks like he's back in good form.

Equipment starting to play tougher now that the table has been broken in, which befits this level of competition.

Greece probably deserved to win after Kazakis' phenomenal jump, but pool can be a cruel game.

Most of the dead money is gone, and the match wins will have to be earned now.

No idea whether it's the equipment, conditions or just random chance, but it sure seems like 75% of the misses are undercuts.

Here's a thought.... Anyone else notice they wrapped the rails in an unorthodox manner...?

Note the fold on the side pocket. That is not typical to at least a simonis installation.

That said, it does seem to a better methodology imo

Poor Thorsten.
After that superb rack winning jump on 1 to pull Germany back to 4-5, he botched that 8 ball in next rack.
Netherland were the better team played better tactical game and decision making. If there is a "Best Leader" award in this event, Niels and Mika are in the running. :D

I haven't watched the US - Poland match from yesterday to see US' comeback win. Is it worth a view?
Here is quick recap
It wasn't close

I think the most exciting matches so far are the earlier 2 matches in the session just now which were close and competitive
Chinese Taipei- Greece and Singapore v Kuwait
Both hill hill and could have gone either way. In both, final rack was superb shot by losing team but scratched (Kazakis with that risky superb jump thin cut and Kuwait with tough long shot on 1)

Agreed, but I'd put David Alcaide into the discussion. Sanchez-Ruiz is the better player on Team Spain, but David is the veteran leader and calming influence in that pairing.

A fun tournament so far and the commentary has been great with the exception of Rollie (sorry to sound harsh), who doesn't add anything and just makes me put the commentary on mute. There are better options, outside of the players there. Nick Schulman would be great, but I know he has a pretty packed schedule.
Mike Yednak's commentary is excellent. Extremely knowledgeable and presents well on the mic. Del Sim would also be a great addition.
Another possibility would be to have a coach as an option, such as Anthony Beeler, Stu Montana, etc. I think it would add a new dynamic to the presentation.
