2022 World Snooker Championship (Apr 16th - May 2nd)

He was there with the Russians on video. He got a pass imo. However he didn’t seem 100% complicit and I really don’t care. He’s a hell of a player
I don't gamble on that stuff but I'd say he is fortunate the meeting was set up by News of the World and not actual match fixing given the amount of money bet on snooker. If the wrong people had lost money there could have been consequences if they discovered he had dumped.

He did appear to be a bit confused as well. I’m not sure if he was acting, scared, or both. It was a odd video.

I’ve been around guys talking about “business” and it never sounded like that. I plead the 5th past that.

Just glad he’s ok and continues his career. Hell of a player and seems like a solid family man. It could have ended worse several ways

What I'm saying is he is fortunate the guys who set it up weren't actually trying to fix matches because if he had done that and got caught there are some people who are psycho enough to do something about it.

I lived and worked in North St Louis for 40 years. You become calloused to a lot of things you shouldn't become calloused to. A few instances.

Underage mentally handicapped girl was impregnated by a 30 year old deadbeat who lived next door with his Mother. Girl was hoping the guy would make it right and marry her. He paid a hit man $500 to walk on a school bus and kill her and as a free bonus he shot the bus driver. $500.

Guy owed $1,500 to a cocaine dealer. Gunned down in the middle of a street and before it went to trial the eyewitness was also gunned down. $1,500.

90 year old man strangled with a telephone cord by a kid who wanted to steal his car so he could drive to his Mother's house 2 miles away instead of having to walk. Parked the stolen car in front of his Mother's house. Killed a man because he was too lazy to walk 2 miles.

Retiree working as a security guard at a senior apartment complex to help his grandkids go to college gunned down by 16 year old who wanted his gun.

Maybe people in England aren't like that. In St Louis you can be minding your own business and get whacked. You pull some crap and you definitely got problems. I'm in Columbia MO now and I've had 2 murders on my block in drug deals gone wrong since I moved here and it's still far better than St Louis. Maybe I need to move to England.

Same in most city’s-world wide. Some not even $500. In Oakland $500 will get anything done. In El Salvador $50 will sort it out

$500 and a 15 year old will go do a “job” for you in most spots, if your in the streets and know the right (wrong kind of people) -you understand.

Not part of my life-thankfully.

This came up during this years championship from Neil Robertson:

>>

I know Neil is not a fan of the crucible in the early rounds as its a bit tight and he likes to walk into his shot.
So, his idea might be a bit biased.
However, its still interesting but for it to work you would think for the fans, organisers and TV coverage the logistics would dictate this 2nd venue would have to be very close to the Crucible otherwise it is nothing like the Tennis analogy he used for Center court and court 1.

If it was right next door, hey, maybe this would be interesting as on top of the Winter Gardens already in use this adds to the World Snooker Event Theme park.

What do you all think?

I have been watching a lot of Snooker over the years and the formula for a World Champion is almost the same for every year.
Watch the three or four top players and look closely for the one who is playing poorly to his standards in the first two rounds.
Who is on the brink to be beaten, who is surviving a big scare?
Next step is to beat one of the big names or this year's surprise player.
Then go to the final and win it quite convincingly.

So if Wilson survives today's match against Ding, he might be a contender for this year's WC.

On a second thought...do it like Shane in this year's WC...or Albin in last years premier league.
Might be a cuesport thing, that the top players need a bit of a struggle to wake up to play their best game.

it's the best suggested alternative thus far (china and germany have been mentioned). but i think tradition trumps pragmatism, and even though i'm usually completely unsentimental i kind of agree with bingham - the venue is part of the challenge.

bingham btw, and mark williams, also have the height "disadvantage" in the crammy venue, but seem to thrive there. neil should stop whining and adapt..

Hoping for Ding to win.
He really is the new Jimmy White, most talented guy to not win the World title.

if he had had williams or robertsons temperament he'd be a multiple champion by now. unless he changes in that department i doubt he will ever win it tbh.

Not a lot of surprises. Actually hard for there to be surprises in the final 16 as no overwhelming favourites. Any of 7 or 8 can win it all.

I’ll go with Selby or Robertson. Then again maybe Trump or Higgins…or maybe Bingham an Williams will win another Crucible….or that guy called OSullivan.

one of a couple of things that can really fugg up my bets is mark williams going into this trance mode, again. looks like he's sleepwalking, never misses, almost never plays safe. remarkable.

Sure I am not the only one curious as to what results of drug testing would be for some of the players

Nice spreadsheet (y) (there is a typo in 'Lisowksi').

Why is this thread not under Snooker section? :p
