2023 AZB Ghost Challenge - Official Thread

Thanks again for the advice, I will use the same rules except, I will put the 1 on the spot. Maybe I can get some time on the table this weekend. I will post my results.

Looks like you have the same amount of room around your table as I do. When the CB is against the long rail and I am shooting perpendicular to it, I only have room for about 2" of pullback. I have a shorty cue hanging on the wall for the times I need to put a good hit on the ball.

I split the room with a carom table also. I had a 7 ft with no problems but I wanted the 9 ft to play all games. It sucks not being able to fire shots in off the rail in the side but it’s definitely worth it having the big table.

I rarely ever record any sets against the ghost anymore. I decided to play the ghost a set last night and just turned the camera, so I figured I would use it as my usual once a year submission.

I won 7-2. I completely blew position twice but recovered pretty well. Both times it was basically on the same shot. Seems like I struggle with that shot. Anyway if you need to a good laugh just watch this video. My Fargo is around 620.

9ft Diamond with pro cut pockets.

 
Nice shooting I've seen. One of these days I'll get back to playing once I get things settled down here.

Ridiculous. 4” pockets, 9 on the spot, break box, no ball in hand, automatic loss if he breaks dry. Almost won, and says he played his “C” game. 🤦‍♂️ Goes to show just how much better the top players are compared to us recreational players.

I think there’s something to be said for practicing a level of ghost that you have a high success rate against. Or, slightly different way would be to start, let's say, with 5 Balls, rack them, break and always have ball in hand, balls you made stay down. You play to 5 (or 9, if you want). If you run out: +1, if not -1. When you get to 5 twice, you add one ball. If you get to -5 twice, you remove a ball.

One can play this several hours and has a goal and current status build in.

Or, like Imran Majid said on commentating the Connecticut Open: he plays 15 Ball rotation against the ghost. Teaches you also how to kick and bank, especially with the first balls. I think he said he is not winning that one, at least not often.

I also played vs GOD week ago but only race to 7. my pockets are close to 4.2. Good thing we don´t have so deep shelves as Diamonds.
Old cloth and damp autumn does not help but managed to win 7-2. I would like to play longer races too but keeping high level of focus is so hard for me. Especially longer period of time.
I will post video later with some afterward commentary and analysis.

I like myself most to playing 15-ball ghost too. I can win race to 7 but most of time lose 3-7 or 4-7.
It is not just how good you play but 15-ball ghost you need ton of luck too. Luck part is layout after break. You can just keep getting impossible layouts.
I remember being up 4-0 and then getting 3 breaks where is not possible shot on 1-ball even with ball in hand.
15-ball ghost also destroy your mental health so easily.
Let´s say you play great and just have lack of focus couple times on last 3 ball couple times... It happens so easily because player get out of trouble and then they relax little too much.. and you be down 0-3 even you played super good early racks.
It just feel so bad.

I post example of this later too.

I was on zone and playing super fast and shooting sick positional shots. I was not perfect on positions because not checking anything but good enough to run racks out. Playing almost solely on instinct and I should be up 3-0 but ended up being down 1-2 it made me so angry to myself being lazy that i had to call it a day...

I have many sets played but been kinda busy and lazy to put anything up. Yesterday played until i miss sets. I got 3 times to 8 racks. I might try get some of those loaded and that 7-2 vs god too.

I finally got something done...
I did upload that 7-2 Vs God and those three sloppy(but cool) 15-Ball ghost racks. I added self commentary afterwards too.
