2023 World Cup of Pool (WCOP) 27June-2July, Spain (Winner $60K per team)

...snip...

I don't see table assignments, but if I had to guess, these matches will prove to be in order tables 1-3. In order words, for Americans, ESP-PHI and GBR-QAT on DAZN, GRE-SGP and ALB-PER on Matchroom Multisport Youtube, and SOL for MYA-CAN and AUT-AUS.
I count 30 matches over 6 days. Maybe there will only be one table, and all matches will be only on the main TV channel?

Martinez has had several big runs at the US events recently, and Tevez has been around for a long time. It all depends on how they match together, but I expect them to make Albania work hard, and even Peru to win their opening clash. May very well overcome Poland in the next round :)

Looking at the draw I call three teams to get the cup this time, they are Taipei/ China/ Germany.
Current World Cup holders might get kicked in the very first round by Chua/DD team 😛

peru is a very competent team, but little TV table time in MR events may be a factor. agree on taiwan and germany but to be contrarian i say USA, spain or netherlands.

Early jitters -Fran missed 2 ball twice and Philippines ties it 5-5 in race to 7 winners break. Defending champion #1 seed in trouble

Philippines on hill 6-5 as Alcaide missed 4 ball. Oops
Philippines breaking for match as Spain face early exit 😬

Pretty unlucky for the defending champs to draw a team of similar strength to themselves in the first round. All the credit to Team Philippines.

Sad to see David and FSR bow out, but they have been fantastic hosts for all the pool in Lugo, Spain, and have, thereby, ignited interest in pro pool in their own country. They are true role models in our sport.

Well, it only proves what every competent pool connoisseur knows better than MR - seeding teams based on their individual rankings is... (won't put my wording here as it is far from being polite).

I loved the drawing procedure, Boyes picking the papers from the trophy :) And here we go, with several unseeded teams which are stronger than many of the seeds by far - it was pretty much inevitable, what eventually happened.

Proud for Team Philippines! :)

it's also a participation thing. dodong and chua would have been higher ranked had they participated in more events..

I think his is the entire reason. We will all recall how Serena Williams didn't have a high seed in the latter stages of her career. If you don't participate sufficiently, you don't maintain a high enough ranking to be seeded.

Matchroom is rewarding those who are most serious about participating in Matchroom ranking events, and I agree with this method 100%.

With Spain out, USA are bookies top favorite now.
Netherlands, Philippines should be rated higher than Albania and GB. Would rate China higher if Wu partners Dang instead of Wang Can (and RZA would be a fan  )

Top quarter of draw is most brutal- With Spain A out, there are still big names Philippines , Netherlands and Taiwan fighting for just 1 semifinal slot (with Finland as dark horse party crasher) . Other quarters are relatively easier

The book is dreaming to have USA the number one. I'd probably put Vietnam above them. I wonder if they really get bets or this is all a flyer marketing bs with nothing behind it.

Wow, Austria (not Australia) down 2-5 to their near namesake Australia
The best WCOP team of last 10 years and a big name favorite is on verge of crashing out in first round for 3 years in a row :ROFLMAO: That is an unenviable record

Probably both.
Book has to be taken to pinch of salt especially with such small betting pool (pardon the pun). Pool is such a fringe sport that I doubt that there are bookies with specialised knowledge or dedicated to pool
MR does not directly have individual betting sponsors (before they had sponsors like partypoker, dafabet etc) so they may get some backend from betting industry by marketing odds/ bets

I tend to disagree with such an example, Stu. Serena past her best times of the career vs Chua/DD in their prime is very different.
