2024 World Pool Championship

Thanks for the post up of the bracket...
looking through...
thinking well.. who to root for,
recognize a few names,
wondering who's the oldest with the lowest fargo, hmmm
isn't Darren coming off a illness?

cardiac arrest some year ago.

ralf is probably the oldest.

Thorsten Hohmann and Niels Feijen are old timers too. And I guess Imran Majid isnt so young anymore either.

There's some really interesting match-ups incoming! 🤌

I still have faith in Skylar. He just needs that break through. If what I've read about Tyler's work ethic is true, then I doubt he'll ever be 'the guy'. ...Meaning the man plays/practices endlessly. If you are dedicating that much of your life to be proficient in something and you haven't notably progressed over the course of years, then you may have just hit that ceiling.
He might be the next Hunter Lombardo. Goes to every tournament, never in the finals.

I know pool is a hard game but Tyler makes it look so much more difficult. I'm watching him vs Kledio Kaci on Table 1 right now and he takes like 40 seconds for a simple stop shot. It always seems like he wants it too much and never seems to grasp it. He needs to loosen up a bit if he plans on winning.

I thought pros were supposed to make it look easy.

Yapp on the hill 8-7 and had this 9 ball.

He stood over it for a bit. Got down and back up. Finally Melling just got up and shook his hand conceding the match.

I wonder if he was in pain from his foot or just tired of how slow Yapp had been.

according to boyes it was the latter. yes, yapp was very slow. but that's hardly news for anyone, melling shouldn't concede there

also if melling had broke better in that match he would have won with a margin

Lol. I just saw the last rack. Give me a break, Melling. It's the World Championships.

I love watching Melling play when he’s got it going, but he strikes me as an angry little Englishman. He strikes me as the kind of guy that is your best friend when he’s beating you, but trashes you behind your back when things don’t go his way.

Saying Sky is the next Hunter Lombardo is an ice cold take.

Sky is a bonafide A-tier professional player who seems content with his place in the hierarchy of professional pool. He’s still able to make a decent living playing pool while having a strong focus on his family life.

No offense to Hunter, but he’s on the fringe of even being considered a professional player. Sure, he has shown that he has the game to beat pretty much anyone on tour, but not consistently enough to really make an impact in tournaments. His ceiling is to maybe make the knockout stage of an event. So hardly someone who is going to be able to make a living on just playing pool alone as compared to someone like Sky.

I didn't watch the whole match but reviewed the last rack and the only shots Yapp took that went beyond the 30s threshold were the 2-7 combo (just over 30) and the 5 when the ref cleaned the CB. Slow play was not an issue at least in that rack. I'm guessing general frustration on Melling's part.
