2024 World Pool Championship

I have to say, out of all the younger Filipinos, I'm most impressed by AJ Manas. The guy plays fearlessly. He has such a confident swag around the table...verging on arrogance. I have to wonder if he consciously gives off that aura to intimidate his opponents. He was down 3-7 to JL Chang and has stormed back to go on the hill 8-7. Let's see if he'll close it out.

Maybe I spoke too soon. Manas just missed a hanger of a 3 ball with a wide open rack to close out the match.

Thanks for the post up of the bracket...
looking through...
thinking well.. who to root for,
recognize a few names,
wondering who's the oldest with the lowest fargo, hmmm
isn't Darren coming off a illness?
I guess you could call recovering from a heart attack an illness.

Raga just lost to Aleksa Pecelj 4-9. He'll play James Georgiadis in the Loser's Qualification.

he did win. what a comeback.

He might be the next Hunter Lombardo. Goes to every tournament, never in the finals.

I know pool is a hard game but Tyler makes it look so much more difficult. I'm watching him vs Kledio Kaci on Table 1 right now and he takes like 40 seconds for a simple stop shot. It always seems like he wants it too much and never seems to grasp it. He needs to loosen up a bit if he plans on winning.

I thought pros were supposed to make it look easy.
Tyler did win the Kremlin Cup in 2019. As talented as he is, he does seem to be slightly on teir 2 to some of these guys. Does he take a lot of time? Well yes, a lot. He is just one of those players and it is hard to watch and play against. Not everyone can play as fast as Earl or Shaw, but this doesn't take away from him being a top player.

I got to play him several years back and I shit you not, I pulled a hammy before the match! How the hell do you pull a hammy in pool? I sure as hell did! Went down on a shot and just was in an awkward position and ouch! He proceeded to beat me but he's a really nice kid. I wasn't sure he was qualified to be on the Mosconi Cup at first, but he has proven to me that he is. Perfect in the cup he wasn't, but then again who is. Always looking forward to the Cup every year. It is just a different kind of pressure. This year is going to be super stressful on America with the beating last year and the talent in Europe. I have a particular soft spot for Tyler and root for him to do well. To quote Jam "GO USA!"

That's pretty...

yeah, I hope he's keeping his cool
Honestly, when you factor in that he stopped breathing something like five times, its damned impressive he's alive and competing at the level he is again. He reached the final day at Super Billiards Expo and finished fifth then won the Louisiana Open shootout, which is only a 16 player event, but still.

A lot of talk about Hunter Lombardo -- he'll be playing Pia Filler in a do-or-die match to qualify for the last 64. On paper, he's the favorite. It's probably the best chance he has to make a deep run at the most significant event in the pool calendar.

All respect to Pia, but he couldn't have gotten a better draw in loser's qualification. Sky (vs. Max Lechner) and Fedor (vs. Kyle Amoroto) have both got to play their best to even make it to the final 64

Loser Qualification (LQ) matches NOW
32 remaining do or die must win matches today. Winners go through to last 64 single elimination tomorrow. Losers go home with $2K.
Lots of big matchups. 6 matches between 800s
Gorst v Amoroto (which they are surprisingly not streaming)
Sky v Lechner
Oi v Feliciano
Niels v Aranas
Albin v Johann Chua
Wu Kun Lin v Maciol

Surprisingly so far only one 800s (Biado) eliminated but whole bunch at least 6 more will be sent packing

That's what I meant, without stating it outright. Assuming Hunter gets by Pia and qualifies, he'll have a chance to prove himself in the single elimination (L64) round. He'll definitely have to work for it because the L64 is shaping up to be a bunch of killers. I'd argue he even had a "soft" draw facing BJ Ussery in the previous round.

Some records broken today:
First time 3 brothers (Kos) qualify for single elimination of a major
First time 2 sets of brothers (3xKos and 2xKacis) qualify for single elimination of a major

If Pia Filler beat Hunter Lombardo today, it will be record 3 sets of family (Kos, Kacis, Fillers) in single elimination :ROFLMAO:
