2024 World Pool Championship

Kaci's picking up speed. He looks like he hasn't had any sleep, though. Not the usual game face for Kaci.
 
Kaci's arm is a wee bit bent from his accident, yet he's playing jam up pool. Good for him! What a great win this would be for him after that accident!

Truthfully it’s not embarrassing for us, it is for MR though. If this was held somewhere “normal” it would be packed. Instead MR whores out pool to line their pockets and it’s in a desert as a result.

Same with remote viewing. I’d rather give my credit card info to that Nigerian Prince than to DAZN. Matchroom SAYS it wants to grow pool but really want to grow their “bottom line”.

I would like to address the production value of this event...absolutely awesome. The fireworks, flame throwers, raised stage, introductions, multiple commentators, let's not forget the prize money. I really like how they had 4 on stage commentators like you might see on ESPN during football season or something. I'm not so sure about them wearing jeans, but I'm ok with it I guess. The only thing missing in this are the fans. Where are they? I'm almost wishing they would bring out the Covid cutouts for this event.

While I extremely doubt we'll ever see UFC/WWE audiences, or even what UK professional darts pulls in. I would like to see some interest from the host country.

I expected crickets in the early rounds, but this is unfortunate. I'd like to be able to blame the whole "build it and they will come" methodology, but the product has been great for a couple years now. While I'm ok with the inconsequential bad optics if it means players earn large prize money. I'd still like the pro game appear to be an interesting product to the world.

I had more live people interested in watching my 9b mini final Tuesday night.

pool fans are never gonna travel to saudi. no alcohol, weird culture, desert climate. the only way they can fill the seats is to let filipinos/east asians who are already in saudi attend, but then don't have a 90$ gate..
 
Kaci tries top cut the 2 in using the rake and misses, almost scratches, and leaves Chua nothing. Chua fouls, can't hit the 2, and now Kaci has ball in hand. The winds are shifting in Kaci's favor now.

I agree to a point.

While yes the bad optics is MRs issue and black eye. I don't know if I'd agree that location is everything you're making it out to be. Even the finals of the USopen last year had empty seats. ..not many mind you, but definitely there.

Reality here is live viewing isn't what drives revenue. Sure they might be taking a decent bite out of their set up costs with the gate. However I'm willing to bet the luxurious seating we see in the promo shots is more about presenting an image then a means to entice ticket sales.

Completely agree... at least with people abroad traveling to witness.

I don't know what people have for expendable money in Saudi. Still guessing MR will go the other way and fore go the effort to accommodate the non existent live fans, and opt to conceal the lack of audience with audio "clap tracks".
 
Nerves are starting to set in on both players. Chua misses the 8 to which would have made the score 7-5 against Kaci. Kaci runs to the table and pockets the 8 and 9 It's now 6-6.

Kaci makes a ball on the break and is on the move. He calls for an extension on the 3 in the side, which is a tough cut. He plays safe and hits whitey behind a ball, leaving Chua snookered. Pretty mature, says Scott. Shows the discipline.
 
Chua makes a godo hit on the 3, but leaves it wide open for Kaci. Things have changed here mid match. Kaci is straight in on the 3, pockets it. Now he's tough on pinkie. He plays safe. Again, Chua is snookered.

Chua shoots at the pink, misses it, no hit. Kaci gets ball in hand. Kaci has not led this match since it was 1-0. Now he has a chance to get out in front. He's running out like water. This is Kaci's fifth rack in a row. 7-6, Kaci on top.
