I sold my GC III for $1,000. about two years ago. Great condition with nearly new Simonis 860 and three sets of balls (including a set of Centenials). Sold it near Youngstown, Ohio and that is / was the going price if I wanted to sell it. Guy from Columbus, Ohio bought it.
After doing some research I found they were going for $1,000 - $1,500 in our area. We were moving so I priced it to sell. I would suggest that you play on it before you buy it. I have heard of some bad experiences others had. Good tables are out there but you gotta be careful. I think a good Gold Crown for a reasonable price should be relatively easy to find if you are willing to travel a little. You can move it with a Dodge Grand Caravan (or similar) I moved mine several times with no problem.
I think $2,200 is on the high side and you should be getting some good stuff with it.

I'm with Joe W on this one. 1000 to 1500 seems to be the going rate. Unless this table has this has had the rails rebuilt by a great table mechanic( a la mark Gregory or rkc), it would appear this table is at least $500-$1000 overpriced.
If you are patient and do some solid research you can probably find one for under a grand without moving expenses. There are so many pool rooms which have closed or are closing that a sh1tload of them are in storage or looking for homes. A buddy of mine has bought a few of them in the $500 range in the last few years. If possible, hold out for a GC1or2 rather than the 3. They are a little better IMHO.

I'm acquainted with him, through a well known pro mechanic in the Dallas area. Both of them did a little Gold Crown heavy lifting job for me a couple of months ago. They knew I am a GC enthusiast and bragged a little about the white table. Although I have not seen the it, I am inclined to believe it is in good shape.
He can move and set it up for you. Perhaps you can strike a good deal.
At any rate, many used GCIII's are in need of rubber, pockets, and cloth. If you can't do that work yourself and have to pay for all that plus have the table moved and set up, too, you're looking at about $1,100.00 on top of the purchase price.

When Boston Billiards started closing sites, the Worcester one was selling their GCIII tables for $750, with decent sets of Centenials, decent Simonis on most and a couple of house cues. For 2,200 the table should be in like new shape or better and maybe include setup.
A table out of a pool hall that has been recovered countless times and has been infused with a lifetime of cigarette smoke is one thing and a table from a home that has only seen light play and only recovered a couple of times is another animal.
There are three things to look for, condition, condition, and condition.
If the table you are interested in is in A-1 shape, $2,200 might not be out of line. Offer $1,800. Do your homework and be patient.
Used GCs are everywhere. Pristine ones are not.

It's a supply and demand situation.
I suppose there are thousands and thousands of Gold Crowns east of the Mississippi River. Naturally, some could be had there for bargain prices.
However, I think runout1961 is in Texas. There are very few Gold Crowns out here. Subsequently, they aren't cheap. Most advertised GCI's, II's, and III's in Texas are in the $1800.00 to $2250.00 price range. Every now and then, one comes up for a real bargain price, but it sells almost overnight.

i prefer the copper look of the gc III. Why do you think the I or II is better?
I knew I posted in the right place. Thanks for all the help so far guys. jfred0826 is right, I am in Texas and the gold crowns are a lot harder to find. Honestly it doesn't have to be a gold crown. I'm just looking for a half decent table to get back into playing.
Here is the one I am referring to. It's only 3.5-4 hours away from my house. And by the way, whatever table I get, it's going in my living room!

someone did a nice job refinishing it. beautiful table imo.
Looks pretty much like the one I sold two years ago for $1,000. I guess it is a matter of supply and demand. Check the edges of the slate where they go together to make sure they haven't been damaged.
I had the gully pockets (last picture) on mine too and really liked them. I would also check the pockets to make they haven' been damaged at some point. I do not know how you can check the rails with it disassembled but perhaps someone else knows.

Because by the time of the GC III Brunswick had 12 more years to work
on their plan to ruin it.
But mostly, the IIIs used cheap Taiwan rubber.

RKC did the sub rail extensions to 4 1/4. has a few minor scratches( i have young children) but basically this thing is beautiful and plays great. what is a fair price for this table? I'm sure RKC would say the samething about this table. contemplating selling it

Table looks great.... I feel 2200 is a lil high for a GC III though.... Will the seller possibly move, setup, etc at that price???

Just curious...are these the ones you saw in Garland? Because even though they are listed as a Gold Crown, look more like a Centurion, to me (though I could be wrong, as the pictures are not great).

For the past couple of years, over my morning coffee, I search Texas Craigslist and ebay for Gold Crowns. If I'm not mistaken, I have been seeing that Fredricksburg ad for a long time. Maybe a year, maybe two or more........I can't recall.
