28.75" Bubinga cue

that weight is with the pin,cap and collars.it is a 3/8-10 brass s/w style pin and i think it weighs 41 grams.

Is this with the joint, butt cap and pin installed or just the wood? I got my information of the weight of Bubinga at 55 lbs on the high side and 55lbs on the low side at this location: http://www.connectedlines.com/wood/wood16.htm
I am very sure that my calculations were correct when using your figures and the 55lb per cubic foot numbers. I can't hardly believe the weight difference would be so great.

Dick

When I was making my guess I was using this info, which has it slightly heavier. I don't know if the 5lb. difference would explain the caculated and actual weights you have.

Dick,i also put a 6" long .750" dowel of Cocuswood in the front end which is very heavy wood.heavier than Ebony even.

the dowell itself weighed 2oz. and i guess i drilled out 1.25-1.5oz of Bubinga to install it.

so basically with that dowel and the pin i added about 2oz.

i think it was about an ounce heavier than that Chris, maybe i got lucky and found a nice dense piece.

i am cutting it again next week to .900" and i'll put the pin in and post the weight.i am hoping for 16oz with the pin at .900"

I was referring to finished size weight with no additions to the Bubinga.

- Bubinga @ .527 ounce per cubic inch
- Cocuswood @ .75 ounce per cubic inch (per your weight/dims)
- 12" forearm .825" to 1.06" (4.43 oz)
- 16-3/4" handle 1.06 to 1.24 (9.19 oz)
- Brass pin (1.44 oz)
- Collar (guessing MPI @ .2 oz)
- Bumper (.28 oz)
- Shaft (4 oz)
- Less boring for pin and dowel (1.49 oz)
- Cocuswood dowel (1.99 oz)

Playing weight without boring for a weight bolt will be 20.05 ounces give or take.

(Dialing in my spreadsheet as we speak) ;)

the butt came out 15.3oz with bumper guys.thanks for all the guesses.final size is .830" instead of .825".

I can't believe I was off by 7/10ths of an ounce.
Did you end up straight tapering or did you stay with your original plan?

I must have missed something :headscratch:

hey mason,

didn't see this until now for some reason. looks great.

how's it play? btw, on a post somewhere here it stated that you have a mean game. hopefully this cue raises your game.
