With SS collar?Koop said:Wouldn't this make a good alternative to people like myself who like the hit of the piloted 5/16x14?
It would seem to be close to the same characteristics.
Or am I missing something?
Thanks,

I've never seen SS collar and piloted brass with the big pin.
I think brass insert on 3/8 pin is silly. The whole reason the brass insert is necessary on 5/16 pin is because the wood threads won't last in them.
It'll change the feel for sure.Koop said:Yes, I should have mentioned the SS collar.
I like the hit and feel of this so I was wondering if it would be possible to do it with the bigger pin. However, I see why it wouldn't be necessary in that, if I like that hit, why not just use the 5/16x14. Just thought I would pose the question.

With the insert for 5/16, you still have some wood around the collars and could keep some wood around the insert ala Scruggs or old Schon.
I think the pin being smaller and with that ss collar, somehow creates a combination of reasonance/bend that a lot of people like.
