don't see much about three cushion billiards. I recommend you play if you ever get a chance. when I learned how to play I was able to kick at balls like a champ. I know there probally isn't many billiard tables around anymore but im glad the poolhall I learned how to play pool had one.

There's a section where people normally would look and post about 3 cushion billiards called "Carom Billiards"
and so there's not much need or purpose here......it's akin to posting a picture of a cue and asking for comments.
Isn't that why there's a Cue Gallery? The same would otherwise seem to apply to 3 cushion related topics.

Three cushion

Every poolplayer should put 3c on their bucket list! Just to say you have done it. Problem would be some folks may be hundreds of miles from a room that has one. You can't scratch, there are no fouls and no penalties that I am aware of. It's your turn. Shoot! And you get to really stroke em with serious speed as many shots are traveling great distances. As I have said before all games help all other games. I would imagine people have tried this game and never made a point and quit!! One of my buddies was a victim of just that thing. Tough but rewarding.

I think a mention of 3-cushion has a place in a pool or snooker forum.

Some 3-cushion with a mentor changed a lot of my choices of shots at
pool and snooker.....you learn things about ball and rail effects quickly
at 3-c......they become a valuable part of your arsenal at pocket games.

Once I got started in Billiards I played quite often. It's funny, you ask someone to play some Straight Rail and all they want to play is three-cushion, they say Straight Rail is too easy:rolleyes: When the balls get about three feet apart it ain't easy anymore. I enjoyed it but wasn't particularly good at it. I'd run three in three-cushion many times and miss the forth by the thickness of a sheet of paper. I did that for about three years, I think, before I ran four. You do get to see some shots differently, that's for sure.

God forbid somebody mentions 3 cushion

Straight Rail, 1, 2, 3 cushion does not matter.

If you think you are a pool player try playing billiards.
It will humble you so quickly you may quit all games.

Most players think they know the cue ball, in reality they only have half a clue and the other half is mediocre at best. It will humble you.

It's all about the cue ball in every game we play. The other balls are just there for us to play pool with the cue ball. They are pretty colors and sometimes shiny.

Too much emphasis is put on pocketing balls, aiming systems and drills that are for pocketing, Pocketing balls is the easy part, controlling the cue ball is the real challenge in the game.

Every decent player is a shot maker that is how we learn, we begin to make shots, become more familiar with the angles and begin to make more shots and become more consistent.

I will take the player with the best cue ball control every day for the rest of my life, day in and day out they are winner.

Billiard/Carom players are a different breed. Attend a 3 cushion event just once and you will see the difference all around.

I love both games. Sort of like I am with straight pool, I can get on a billiard table and play by myself for hours.

3 cushion is the only game I use to play for fun-fun. A little weed and a lot of imagination and you never know what new shots you will invent. :Johnnyt

There are gambling games you can play on a billiard table. We used to play a ring game that consisted of who ever scored the 5th billiard got paid by everyone. You had an optional cue ball on the first shot but if you made a billiard you had to use the same cue ball for the rest of the run. We would play that game all night and have a couple dozen guys in and out of the game. There are a zillion way to handicap the game as well. I played a top player once who played me 25 to 15 and he played 3 no count. I lost.

The more familiar you are with various 3+ rail options, the better equipped you become at getting out of tight safety lies in 9/10 ball. I never found enough opportunity to establish proficiency at 3+ rail shots during normal 9/10 ball play and I did not force myself to practice those shots. Focusing on 3C as a game is not only fun, but it develops those skills that are useful in pool.

Now you have done it

You are letting the cat out of the bag. Let them struggle to learn safety play, thickness of hits, controlling speed and direction of 2 balls.
I love watching somebody pay for lessons in safety play, they may have well invested their money in Bernie Madoff.
Great Name Sealegs, I have 2 of them myself, yet I get car sick..go figure

Cool. Never played that I don't think. Johnnyt

the other day at my pool room we played 3 cushion billiards on the pool table 4 1/2 x 9..........:)
a measle ball /a regular cue ball/ and a solid pool ball
it was a blast
yes the pockets prevented some shots and you can only get so close to the corner but it does test your knowledge
so even if there isnt a billiard table around you can still play...

Interpret it as you may

Isn't this kind-of the point of the forums: To help one billiard fanatic to another?

I think if you read my first post you will find it very helpful. I think it is fair and sound advice as to why straight rail, 1, 2, or 3 cushion is not only fun but in my opinion the shortest route to learn the cue ball.
The second post was a joke with some sarcasm thrown in.
Interpret it as you may. I also believe it's very truthful.
Sincerely SS

On a different note
As far as any treads about 3 cushion/Carom being on the main forum I will interpret that as a joke or an attempt at sarcasm also.

Lets read 700 pages on what happened with Johnny Archer and Mike Dechaine in a hotel room or
820000 page barkfest of the upcoming 1 pocket match in NJ, save the drama for your mama.
I guess they handed out forum police badges for the holidays.
