thinking about getting one. I like 13 1/4mm. Had a 314 but the hit was not solid if you hit the cue ball with anything other than center ball. It made a
plastic sound. I have read in here that other people have had this same
experience. I thougt maybe the larger shaft might be more solid. I liked the
way the 314 played but the sound is a big thing to me and i could'nt get
past it. Anyone have experience with 314 fat.
thanks jack

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with these also. My last search didn't turn up any results on here, but I could be blind :)

if you don't like one you're probably not going to like the other. the construction isn't much different form what i hear.

Thicker pro taper

I was also interested in this shaft and play with a 314-2. I tried a fat shaft out found the pro taper to be thicker than what I like to play with. I would suggest that you try one out first. I was in a tourney a few months ago a another player played with one. I asked to try it out and Im happy I did since it showed me that it's not for me. On a side note, I don't get a hollow feel from the 314-2. Good luck.

The new generation is taught to believe this is the sound of a high tech, "low deflection" cue . That creaky "stack of leggos" hit has been trademarked by Predator, and any disparaging remarks directed at such, may be prosecuted under the new, federal hate crime legislation.

You are a racist for even mentioning it.

If you find you need this hit, but can't afford the Koolade, try a cheap ebay cue with a cracked ferrule. A screw on tip provides much the same sensation.

Jackpot,

You should think about the OB Break shaft. It's 13mm, still low deflection or squirt, and will give you that solid hit and feel you are looking for. It come standard with the Samsara Break tip, but you can get it with the Everest by Tiger also.

Another choice is to go here:
http://www.jjcue.com/obcues.htm
and look at the bottom of the page. J&J carries the OB XL shaft, which is similar to the fat shaft, but will give you that solid hit you are looking for.

OB XL....interesting. Didn't know you guys had a fat version of your shaft. Is this basically a thicker version of the OB-1? Or are there any other differences?

Yup, I need that "BONK!" and the OB's deliver it :thumbup2:

Hey Jackpot, you might just hit the jackpot if you try our ferrule-less LD shaft. CA$H cues has a 13.2 m.m. shaft in the ferrule-less design. Send me a PM if your interested.

Ok Jackpot to your orginial question before your post got hijacked. I play with nothing but Predator shafts for years and I would not change. There are other good low defelction shafts but I prefer the Predator. I went to the Fat shaft because I wanted a more stiffer hit than the 314-2 had. And I didnt like the center ball hit with the 314-2. I love it over the 314-2. I still keep (2) 314-2 shafts in my case and I still play with them from time to time, but I really like the way the Fat shaft hits. There is some Pros and Cons though IMHO.

Pros:
- Stiff hit without alot of vibration
- Balances cue better because of added weight
- Bigger shaft to get a great feel with a bridge and has a great feel
- U can power the cue ball with center ball without alot of whip. (Added benefit for me)

Cons:
- Cannot get the amount of spin on cue ball like the 314-2
- Deflection is different than 314-2. have to re-adjust aiming (just slightly on high spin shots)

All in all I will continue playing with mine for a long time.

Hope this helps.

Switch to OB, I have seen so many predator shafts break or ferrule collapse into the shaft, there not worth the trouble. I have never seen or heard of one defective OB. Plus they are american made.

314 fat shaft question

NICHOLLSS

I had a buddy that had an OB shaft and the ferrule came apart while we was playing. I am sure OB made it better but he never said if they did. The shafts hit good and I do like that they are American made, but I have never owned one for a fair comparison. I have never had a Predator shaft give me trouble and I have owned alot of them. Once the taper gets a little smaller I would buy another one or usally after I changed the tip. I did break a BK2 shaft breaking and Predator replaced the whole stick. If OB was willing to let me try one out I would consider changing my preference. If I didnt like it I would be willing to send it back. The only thing I really didnt like about the OB was the ferrule not being white. But I havent hit alot of balls with one.
