WOW, that is a bunch of posting!, so, I was trying to figure out what would be cool to do on my 4000th post.

Here's what I came up with.....Back in the day when I was a noob at the poolroom I REALLY wanted to walk in and ask newby questions, but I didn't want to seem uncool you know?! So I learned by listening and losing money :) ....this was pre-internet days people!

So, what I want to do is offer my experience in the game. If you have questions, or you are having trouble getting answers, just ask. It can be about cues, tables, games, shots, whatever.

I have been playing seriously for 25 years, and worked in a few pool rooms. I have been working on cues almost just as long.....If I don't know the answer, I'll tell you that too :)

So, let's have fun, and you can ask here, or pm me if it's easier for you.

That's the great thing about this game dub.....someone always sucks more then we do! :)

Case in point.....I played in a 14.1 tourny with many top name Pros and I ran 50 or more in both my matches and lost! I was boohooing how I sucked to my now wife and she just said....."hey, most people will never run 50 in their life!"

I hate when she is right!

Good question!

If you mean tougher as in physically? yes,....I am 5'6" and not a real imposing character, but I taught Tai Kwon Do and Aikido for years, so that training helps you have piece of mind in dealing with sticky situations.....and not worrying about getting hurt.

One guy I had to kick out was actually a buddy, but he had a bad habit of not treating the equipment nicely.....that sucked ,but he knew he was wrong.

The only sketchy time was removing a younger kid who was a monster. He was with buddies, and girls, and losing money.....they made fun of him, and he grabbed one of the guys up over his head WWF style! The only thing I could think to do was run over, stand in front of him, and remind him what it is going to look like to the girls getting dragged out in cuffs after I pound him! :)

The look on his face was priceless.....I have a way of disarming people with Humor and little drama. Both times, the guys stopped back the next day to apologize for the stupidity. It happens.

Good thing is the rooms/State I worked in didn't allow alcohol.....I don't know how bouncers/bar tenders do it day after day?

My question is what single piece of advice/info would you pass on to an aspiring player that you feel would save them the most amount of time by their not having to figure it out for themselves?

Looking forward to at least 4k more. :cool:

You seem like a knowledgable fellow although I have played over twice as long as you ... lol

I am at a point in my life (65) where I see a lot of young players, who could be up and coming young players If they had some directions or lessons. I did teach Pool in my younger days, formally, but I am not a certified instructor. I believe that I would be a better instructor than player, although I still play pretty strong. I taught mostly kids and women, although some male players too.

I have taken a liking to 3 or 4 players that I believe I could help elevate their game to the next level, but they have to show the desire to do so. One of the players I play fairly often, although cheap sets of $25 or so. I prefer to teach in a teaching environment, and not just a tip here and there.

Do I just approach these players and offer free lessons to them or not? You never know how people would react, some might be offended, some might take you up on it. I have offered tips to 2 of them, but I would really like to give them lessons.

And yes, I see bar bangers that I want to step in, and at least teach them the basics on stance, form, and how to bridge properly.

What do you say, do I approach these players I have taken a liking to?
