44 Breaks & Only 3 Chances

If you break from the opposite end to see if it makes a difference, do it only a couple of times, don’t want to leave tracks

I wasn't trying to be funny. If no one local will help then there are some instructors who will do zoom or other remote instruction. imo you clearly need someone to help you. And it isn't going to happen on a forum.
Good advice, if you’re worried about posting a vid here then find someone qualified to help in person or online

I had new SuperSpeed cushions installed a few years ago.

It has Simonis 860.

The are Belgium Aramith balls. The Crown set.

Rails are tight. They don't die off the cushions.

It has Brazilian slate. Which has always been a concern of mine as I was hoping for Italian.

Might try a serious soap and warm water washing of the balls followed by a thorough rinse. All by hand. In a serious effort to find a mechanical issue the balls and rack are suspect. Might try rotating balls swapping the extra six balls for first the one through six then the four through nine.
With everything right even a medium speed break and a square hit on the head ball should be plenty to spread the balls. It shouldn't take much to spread a nine ball rack.

I am just curious, what percentage of cosmo is acceptable?

I have broken at least 40 racks in the last week, those and my opponents so let’s call it 60 racks. There may have been 2 or 3 that would provide for a straight forward run out.

I am not rated yet (thanks to iusedtoberich for the fargo lesson) but my preliminary fargo is currently 440 with 132 robustness, and I am happy when I pot a ball on the break. I have my own table and play every day. So must be a matter of expectations, I don’t have any. I am no where near good enough to blame my equipment.

I wish you luck and I hope you conquer your white whale.

The only real possibilities here are you don't know how to rack the balls tight and/or you just don't understand how hard this game really is. Running out a 9 ball rack is a real accomplishment. I remember watching a savy 9 ball gambler years ago, that really understood he was barely a B player. He NEVER tried to run out at 9 ball. He didn't play for large stakes but he knew how to get the cash.

Not funny fuggles. I've been a student of this game for over 25 years. I know how to play.

And just so you will know......I tried doing what you suggested with players from Evansville. I got blown off, nobody wanted to help. So much for the brotherhood.
Try voodoo or wicca or something...

I am trying to offer sage advice while being funny.

Why would you think that it’s the table’s fault?
Do you run out 5 out of 10 on other tables?

Watch some pro tournaments, with the 9 on the spot and a break box, most frames of players under 800 are not break and run.
Are you an 800 Fargo player?

Can you beat the 3 ball ghost?
4 ball ghost?
At what number do you fail?
I doubt if you just spread out 9 balls with no clusters you could beat the 9 ball ghost
am i wrong?

Just got done racking and breaking racks of 9-Ball on my Gold Crown IV. I counted and I broke 44 racks and only had three decent chances to run out. I got out once and hosed up the two others.

This has been going on for years and years and years. I know you posters are sick and tired of hearing it. But I've just about reached my wits end with this GCIV. It has to be a bad breaking table. And even when I did make a ball almost every time I had a real bad spread, literally no chance at all.

I guarantee you that if my renters decide they don't want to renew my upstairs apartment above my garage for storage next year I am going to get a Diamond Professional table. I've just had it with this GCIV. And yes, like I said in the other thread, that means I will have two home tables. Once I convince myself the Diamond Professional is a better playing table I will either just keep both or try and sell the GCIV.

Stay tuned...........

Wood rack or template? If you aren't firing the wing ball in with a template rack, I would switch to another version. Fedor's new rack is pretty good.

Agreed that 3 looks out of 44 breaks is not very promising, but it also seems statistically improbable. What do you mean "3 decent chances to run out."? What about the number of times you could control the table after the break (being able to see the lowest ball)? As Stu hinted, you can't (and shouldn't) try to run every rack.

I would expect to get three to five cosmos out of forty racks, maybe more. Then there should be a bunch of racks with minor problems that are easily solvable. Getting out once in forty-four times does sound a bit bogus. Perhaps really bad rails could cause that but OP isn't a pilgrim. Rails that bad should scream at him.

You asking about the lowest ball makes me wonder: Is he pattern racking with a bad pattern?

If I'm not playing well I typically do not hit break shots or especially practice break shots. Archer had a video years ago and he said he always starts out by just randomly rolling the balls out on the table then shooting them like straight pool which is the simplest way to build up your confidence. I don't like to break any racks unless I'm feeling extremely confident running balls and it's amazing how well I break the balls when my confidence is high in running balls!

I'm more of an 8 ball player than 9 ball and the ironic thing for me is even if I'm hitting the rack as good as I can my best breaks will be when I mishit the headball typically, I will have perfect breaks which the cueball's position varifies but still not great results. The thing is I could still win tournies regularly even if I wasn't running a lot of racks I can still win a lot of matches if I'm running out when the opportunity is there within 2 or 3 innings!

If I'm not running racks I'd be more concerned on fundamentals, pre shot routine, shot selection/pattern play and safeties which most of these won't factor into games if you are practicing by yourself especially playing 9 ball! I'm not a 9 ball player I just never enjoyed it but if I'm playing well I can hold my own! 8ball and straight pool are much better practice games and you don't have to be in dead punch 99% of the time to do well.

Probably a stupid analogy that everyone will laugh at but before I had a popping break I would work on it all the time. I mostly kept a low stance and just focused on grip and getting more speed in my forearm. reminds me of boxers who had no power and they were called arm punchers. I would see power breakers that would rise up on the final stroke before delivering the cue so I started doing that but it still didn’t click, I was still an arm puncher.

I worked with a guy at a pool school who was a student, not an instructor, and he told me this …

Have you ever watched a baseball pitcher do his windup? He brings the ball back as he raises his front leg and rotates his hip, he’s wound up. He then unwinds throwing his front leg forward driving his arm forward as he brings his hip around and driving off the back foot to to finish on his front foot.

He said I know you can’t bring your front foot up but on your final back stroke, as you rise, take the weight off your front foot and feel like your lifting it as you rotate your hip and put the weight on your back leg. Now you’re wound up so push off the back leg as you rotate your hip and throw the weight to your front foot as you deliver the cue. POW!!

Took a lot of practice and a little tweaking to fit my body but I was no longer an arm puncher my hips and weight distribution were all connected now and it finally clicked!

And by the way, I never made it down to the Mall at Evansville today to hopefully play on a Diamond and see how it plays. This Insomnia crap reared it's ugly head again last night and I was still awake at 7:00 this morning.

I am going to try and go tomorrow (Tuesday) assuming I can indeed finally catch some Zs tonight and not still be wide awake all night.
