I hope you enjoyed your practise.
Sometimes our eyes can be the trigger for unwanted mistakes in our technique. For example if somebody has a tendency to tighten the grip at the moment of impact with CB and struggle with draw shots where relaxed and good follow through is needed it really helps. I was amazed with my results after trying to shoot some long power shots I struggle with. With my eyes closed I just felt my stroke is more relaxed and fluid and that's why potting is better. The trick is if your muscle memory is correct while you shoot with closed eyes your mind is empty and you are all in feelings. Every time I notice my stroke is "conscious" shooting with closed eyes really helps. When I have lessons with students who already learn the basics and mechanics of the stroke but struggle with draw because don't follow through they are amazed how it helps and have fun.

I wish you all the best and to keep practicing I know you want to perform your best at the EC.

this proves your alignment and stroke are straight....
for some players the stroke is fine
its the eyes and brain that get in the way:banghead:

I perform the same drill and have for years, I shoot this shot diagonally across the table because I don't want the rails to possibly influence my stance setup or cue alignment. Also with an added twist.

An added twist is, after using Center for the drill, use High and have the QB follow the OB into the pocket.

This drill will tell you if you have any issues with your stance or cue alignment and stroke.

Nice post. :)

What kind of table is that? Sure looks well-built and maintained :).

As far as your drill,is the table that slow that you feel like you naturally have to hit the shot with enough force for the shot to sound that loud?

My basic point is as good as you hit the balls at that speed, you can accomplish the same thing with HALF that speed and your accuracy will go up even higher.

I don't have a table at home but this is the info in it's purest form.

Give that a try for an hour and go bust some asses . Tommy D.

The table is from local maker and yes, it is very well-built. The cloth is 3 years old so it is rather slow, you need to work cb "a little"

For your hand, aim and eye, the real stroke test is pocketing a tough ball with a smooth as silk, gorgeous stroke. My Home Again Pool Shot does it for my players:

1. Stick one of your object balls somewhere near the foot spot, but not on it (the foot spot is the place where the head ball goes in the rack for breaking).

2. Stick your cue ball somewhere near the head spot (the head spot is where the cue ball would be directly opposite the foot spot symmetrically on the table, middle of the table between the middle diamonds on the short rails and first two diamonds along the long rails).

3. Next, you pocket the object ball in either far corner BUT your cue ball must come "home again" to the head of the table, rolling three or four rails.

If you try to over-aim the object ball, it might make the pocket but you'll fail to score the cue ball home again. Same for if you hit too hard, use spin except for center ball/no spin, etc.

This is my stroke test for champions. Two or three of those get me warmed up for any pool challenge!
