5 days with Schmidt

John Schmidt is a wonder to watch. He plays with such ease and smoothness. He also plays at pace that would make for great TV.

Like Dennis said his pattern selection and table manipulation are great and he comes with the tough shot when he has to and avoids creating problems at other times.

John who is your dirt bike sponsor and where can I get John Schmidt dirt bike shirt or better yet where can I get a John Schmidt 14.1 shirt.

Keep on stroking buddy.

I was watching John practice the other day and he was playing the 1 pkt ghost and ran 59 twice. He has a high run of 68. Break then ball in hand for 5 racks only. Try it its not easy i assure you and you will appreciate that 68 ball run in short order.........

Just curious, what break method did he use?

I am glad John made it through the dirt bike riding in one piece. Those are solid runs. I can't wait to see what you do next. (win the SBE maybe?)

That's great! I'm glad he is breathing life back into 14.1. I hope I get to watch him play some day.

He broke just like you would if you were defending your hole and also only ball in hand if you scratch so that was my bad with the post earlier about ball in hand after the break.

Thanks, and yeah I wondered also about your ball-in-hand comment but didn't mention. That would be different from the DCC rules and make the challenge somewhat easier (if that notion really applies). A run of 68 is off the charts where a "seemingly mundane 15" is a real feat by common standards.

In a word, brilliant. John's a ball running machine. Keep that video camera on, Marop, and thanks for sharing.

John's excellence brings to mind the great Dick Lane, who was known for playing 100 no-count straight pool. That means any inning less than 100 counted as zero. Sounds to me like John could have thoroughly whooped the super-talented straight pool legend in Dick's prime.

It's also reminscent of Mike Sigel's legendary appearance at the Mayfair Club, an upscale social club in NYC, roughly 25 years ago, an appearance arranged by former pool pro and Mayfair Club member Rusty Miller. Playing against one of the best pool players in the club, Sigel broke and after the fellow's first inning, Sigel ran 100 and out. Rusty then introduced Sigel to former NYC mayor and Mayfair club member John Lindsay, who had only seen part of the run. When introduced to Sigel, John Lindsay commented that he wished he'd seen the whole 100-ball run. Sigel's truly legendary reply was "Want me to do it again?"

When speaking of fine straight poolers, one often talks of guys that CAN run 100. But with guys like Sigel and Schmidt, they WILL run 100's, and they know it all too well.

There is an Accustats player review match that I have where Jim Rempe says that when you are playing a lot of straight pool you should "rain hundreds". I'm pretty sure what John did is exactly what he meant.
