I've been playing primarily 9 ball most of my life with the occasional 8 ball game mixed in for fun. I am at a point now where it is the opposite and was looking for web sites that I can browse during down time at work to help my game. I guess what I'm mainly looking for is information on reading patterns etc that apply more to 8 ball than 9 ball. I plan on hitting a local book store and see what I can find there, but reading a book while I'm supposed to be working seems to be frowned upon. :D
Thanks in advance for any help/advice

there are lots of resources online..

and the 8 ball bible is the best money you'll ever spend to learn to play the game right..

but a good rule of thumb is this..

shoot at your most difficult balls first.. if you can't sink them play safe off of them..

and save the easy balls to help get you out of trouble..

Sucks you can't get away with reading at work. In any case get the books.

this is out of print for many years but the info is excellent. If you can find this book for cheap, get it. Unfortunately most of the sites selling this book realize it's kind of rare and have jacked up the price as a result. But if you click this link and click on some of the sellers like dualj, they seem to be selling for cheap (not knowing what they have maybe?)

Hi,

all books from Capelle and G. Fels are highly recommended- they also wrote about 8-ball.
And for sure the video from Jimmy Reid was very good.
But at least especially on 8-ball it s necessary to make experience. Try to get a very good 8-Ball player-watch him and ask him. 8-Ball is so much about tactics and shooting the right ball at the right moment...like in almost any other game. The tactical things in 8-Ball are in my opinion the most underestimated :-)

a real 8-Ball-lover^^

lg from overseas,

Ingo

FYI, I have some 8-ball strategy info and online videos here:

Enjoy,

Come into Hard Times on Tuesday night and play in the line 8 ball tournament. It fun, good experience and its cheap ($5.00) and you play for over two hours. Best win/loss recond wins. There are plenty of excellent bar players and regulars that frequent Hard Times daily and I'm sure you can find someone that will help you out. PM me if you need a little help.

You can also order this book from Freddy the Beard's site, which is where I got my copy:

http://bankingwiththebeard.com/?p=245

That together with the Capelle book, video demonstrations from Dr. Dave, and some time spent studying videos of 8-ball matches should all help out when you're away from the table.

For 8-ball strategy....

There's nothing better than Jimmy Reid's DVD "The Art of 8-ball". He puts 2 hours of material regarding 8-ball strategy that is the best I've seen.

Accu-stats sponsored an 8-ball tournament years ago. You might want to get those dvd's and just listen to Bill Incardona's commentary, you can learn a lot just doing that. Particularly interesting is the 3rd game of the Reyes-Bustamante match.

I purchased "Mastering Pool" used from amazon for about $10 shipped. Here is a link in case the OP is interested:

http://www.amazon.com/Mastering-Poo...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1272952904&sr=8-1

I haven't read the part on 8ball yet because I'm so obsessed with learning straight pool and that's all i've read. I know it's a way to advanced game for me but I just can't stay away

With patience almost any book can be found on the internet. I just purchased Capelle's "PYB Straight Pool" on Ebay for $4! Yea it's full of highlights and pen marks but who cares. The info is still there and it's hard to find this book under $100 right now.
