February 2nd 2008 at the Q-club in Terre Haute IN there will be an 8 ball race to 4 held on eight 9 foot tables. There was a good turn out last year and there may also be a break contest and a break and run contest along with door prizes and food. If anyone likes to gamble there will be plenty of time after the tournament and the place closes late. They have beer and wine. Also there are 3 seven foot valley bar tables in the room. In attendance will be DR. CUE TOM ROSSMAN who will be doing some trick shots during and after the tournament. This is a beneift tournament for a cancer foundation so the payout will be 50 50.

SH,
I may be interested. Is there a limit on the number of entries? Is the tournament open to professional players (there may be a local pro or two here in Indy who would be interested in playing)? What time will the tournament begin?

Thanks.

Lol

I cant imagine why they wouldn't let them in ....there are plenty of 8-ball players in Indy they dont have to like playing ...

HP,
Fortunately for me, I'm fairly certain that I am NOT one of the players you mention (though I hope to be eventually).

I only mention it because there are some really good players in town that just love to play - are in this for the love of the game, not for the bucks. Unfortunately Indy is turning into a "pool wasteland", with very little organized competition on 9 foot tables (especially since Chalkies recently closed).

Since this is a benefit tournament for a worthy cause, I was just wondering whether the presence of some pro-caliber players would be a help. If it was to be in any way a detriment, we would never consider it.

Indy

anyone from indy will be allowed to play. there are a couple real good players here and that does not keep people from playing. if you want to, have george and janette come over and play. i think i know the players you are talking about and there is no reason they would not be allowed to play. the more the better.

Willie ...I assumed you were talking about George and Jeanette ...and I agree with you completely . I also didn't know that it was a charity tournament ...hopefully someone will open a place and / or help to organise more tournaments in the Indy area ....I would come home to play in them whenever possible ....maybe we need to drag Mac out of retirement .............lol.....!

Start Time

the start time for this tournament is 10:00am. like most tournaments im gonna say 10:00 am sharp but you all know how that goes. also last year there was no calcutta but this year im gonne try and run one for all the players benefit for showing up. also you may call ahead of time if you like and put your name in. i think the turnout is going to be good and i have heard from several people that they like the idea of a tournament on the 9 foot tables.

I was just curious as to the rules to your break an run contest, it sounds interesting do you mind letting me know how you would go about running a break an run contest?

Break Contests

the rules of the break contests are simple, you will get three breaks for $5 on the bar table and the amount of balls you make on all three breaks combined will be you score with the 9 ball being worth 2. the break and run contest is something that i heard about a while back and have not yet tryed but it seems just as simple. you break the balls and have to run the entire rack out. since this is new to me i guess you get three breaks as well. im not sure if you get ball in hand after the break or not but that could be decided by a vote the day of the tournament. on another note the last time i was at a tournament the break contest pot was about $600. if anyone has anything they would like to add to this please feel free.

ball in hand?

I wish there were tournaments everywhere that let you break and get ball in hand in a b and r contest!!!!lol. Stakehorse...are you unaware that b and r contest are break and if you make a ball and don't scratch, then run out from where the cue ball lands.? Perhaps you would like to play me a 1on1 tournament and give me the break and ball in hand?

The only break and run contests I have observed were done by breaking, accepting cue ball where it lands (scratch on the break loses), and running out from there.

Any less stringent rules generally end with a runout fairly quickly; and do away with a lot of the pressure and excitement. With the more stringent rules; the pots can get fairly large. Just an observation.

ok

well thats what it will be then. thats why i put this on here was to get the rules of it. so do you only get 1 break then. the only reason i said it like that was because unless some good out of town players come in who could actually run out i think 98% of the people here could break take ball in hand twice after the break and still not get out.

contest

1on1pooltourny, are you unaware that i never said you get the break and ball in hand in this tournament, but i did say that anyone who could add anything to the break and run contest rules was more than welcome to which means that i did not know exactly how it was held.

SH,
Yes, only 1 try per customer.

The pot can roll over to another tournament (in itself becoming an attraction for the next tournament).

Or let everyone buy a second chance at it, and double the pot.

Or if you are desperate to give it away, just give everyone a free second chance.

Or just give it to charity if no one does it on the first try.

Ok

i think it would be a good iea to give everyone a second chance at it (still pay though to add more money to it). im only saying this because they dont have a lot of tournaments around here and it might be a while before they have another. thanks for the advice
