832

So the pockets measure what, 8 inches
No. The message reads I don’t care how big or small the pockets are.
Jayson beat the crap out of that table and earned every ball .
Again I will say it. Most players if they can REACH 300 would puke all over themselves.
Most can barely get past 100-150 and if they had 6 inch pockets they still couldn’t reach 300.
To run 832 is amazing no matter what the conditions are. To stay in tune mentally for that many balls is mind boggling.
Most people can’t stay awake that long.
Picking apart the cloth, rails, pockets, temperature, what he had for lunch means little to nothing.
The guy ran 832 with mental fortitude that may go unmatched in history.
In past history only a few people witnessed great high runs and signatures were required or it didn’t happen.
Today millions can watch greatness with one click of a mouse.
Bobby is a solid guy and puts on a great show for the world to see.

Quite agree with you, except that there is nothing wrong with asking to see the dimensions of the pockets, it's not supposed to annoy anyone. If it were me I would show it to everyone at the very beginning of the event, to promote such an achievement it would not be much, I am very certain that it is not only me who would like to see it and not just by word. I've modified hundreds of pockets, I know what it's all about, and it's quite simple to make pockets twice as easy without anyone in their living room really noticing. Regardless, I don't really care, I just asked questions.

No. Pockets about the same. 4.9 corners & 5.3 side pockets. 760 Simonis cloth.
After watching you rack, seemingly 85,000 times, I would like to set my table up like you have this set up. Have you only trained the table, or are you also using some sort of donuts? If so, what kind of donuts are those?

I think it's a Perma-Rack or equivalent. That's a template that guides placement of donuts at the right positions. It's like tapping/training but more permanent. Stan Shuffett has been doing that for years, but I think it was without a template. One of his videos was the first time I saw the technique.

There are some threads about the Perma-Rack.

Everything I’ve seen on the perma-rack is using standard Avery donuts, which are too thick in my opinion.

I do wonder what role today's chalk plays in making these sorts of runs even possible. There are hundreds of skid-able shots in a run like this -- those rolling half-ball hit type shots, where a skid causes a miss. You just don't see as many of them with the newer chalks. Even being diligent about cleaning the cue ball only helps so much when using the older chalks.
I think the biggest factor is the rack. Runs often end with the break shot and the rack not opening or balls freezing up. On his table if two balls even touch they bounce apart. The rack opens effortlessly. Super clean balls can touch a rail and slide in. As you said, no skids. He is an exceptional shot maker.
You can break down his runs as, many decent runs connected by exceptional shots. Many of these shots would not be taken in a real game.

Can no one agree that making position for 832 balls in a row is a lot more difficult than pocketing 832 balls in a row?
His ability to nudge break balls into place and leave his cue ball so perfectly for such consistent breaking is what I am in awe of. That is far more difficult, and important, than the making balls or size of the pockets.

if cricket championships and chess matches can be played over a several day period, i don’t see why high run pocket billiard exhibitions with everything on video has to be completed in one visit.

Because old hats are stubborn and will continue to defend their definition of a high run, which continues to have properties added to it which makes it impossible for anyone to beat the record unless their name is Mosconi and lives in 1954.

Yeah I don’t care about him making balls on a table with monster pockets. If you watched it he barely had to aim lol it was like playing on a valley BUT maintaining your concentration like that is insane. one of the hardest things in straight pool is staying focus. It is so easy to miss silly shots playing straight pool. To hold that focus for 832 shots is unreal.

Nobody gives importance to the size of the pockets, but what if one day another player of very high caliber like Filler would arrive with a run of 1100 balls done on a table with pockets of 5 5/8 inches and 139 degrees of opening, then the people would start to look at this closely, and the first would be Shaw and associates. But many big players are not interested in wasting their time and energy on this kind of thing.

Watching Ronnie run balls on a snooker table makes it seem like anyone could do it.
Watching the qualifying rounds, with the best in the world, looks like Apa 3's at the table sometimes.

Let the pocket bs go. It's an unbelievable feat, nothing more, nothing less.

No.

It's because Mosconi walked into a different room every night, 300 times a year, for many years, and on his first approach to the table -- whatever it was -- would most often run 100. The night he set his record it was at the urging of the crowd -- he didn't care about high runs. I don't think there is a player alive that could tour the country and run 100 every...single... night in different rooms, on their first inning at the table.

You give Mosconi unlimited tries on Jayson's tables and he's still running balls tonight.

🤷🏻‍♂️see?

Mosconi will always be the greatest.
Jayson runs 832 in less than 25 innings attempted. If Jayson plays for 7-10 days in a row he may not break 500 or he may break 1200 who knows. The pocket size are standard gold crown specs just like we all grew up playing so if you think they are easy than I agree with you but there are other variables like cue ball control and pattern play that produces high runs.
