We are going on our 8th year and I have to admit it has been quite a learning experience for everyone involved. The first few tournaments had quite a steep learning curve for myself as well as the hotel. The hotel didn’t know what to expect and definitely didn’t help out. They wouldn’t even keep the snack bar open late enough for the players! Each year has posted a major improvement. I have succeeded in turning the hotel from a liability into an asset….without them I couldn’t add the amount of money I do. This coming year there will be over $100,000 added to various tournaments at the DCC and yes, the hotel adds money! Why shouldn’t they? We are now the largest event they have. Think about it, the DCC is 9 straight days of ACTION!

There are other issues we have had to address together. Improved security, improved broadcasting of event to hotel TV’s, increased set-up days, and additional areas for pool action. Even allowing us to set-up tables in the bar area. They are definitely working with us to handle our needs. I know there were 200 rooms last year being remodeled and noise was a problem at times. The parking lot was restricted due to the construction trailers and equipment. This coming year we will all enjoy the fruits of their labor. I’ll never tell anyone where to stay. Do what ya gotta do. The most important thing to me is that you show up! The money will be added no matter where you stay; however, I must say I could ask for more money to add to the tournament if more people would stay on site!!! Maybe a good snow storm would add to the value of the Executive West.

I have a few huge announcements regarding the DCC coming during the month of September. Check back periodically and hope to see you there!

I have not been fortunate enough to attend yet, but hope to someday. When I do, I would want to stay right on site. If the rooms are decent why stay anywhere else? Don't worry.
 
The Rooms are Great!

I have been to the Derby Classic the last two years, and there is no better time to be had for pool playin' folk like us. The rooms at the Exective Inn are very nice, they are close to the tournament tables, and the price is very reasonable (in my opinion). If you have never been to the DCC, you should make plans to go. The big names in our sport have a lot more than game, many of them are very entertaining and just fun people. I was fortunate enough to enjoy Alex Pagulayan's version of "Drop it Like it's Hot," on the Hotel elevator after his big Ring Game Win last year. He sings pretty good, believe it or not, and he is also a super friendly guy, as is his wife (and excellent pool player) Phoebe. You will see the best players from all over the world daily, and there are many oportunities for photos, conversation, and even competition in the upstairs room with the bar boxes. If you love pool, this is the place to be in January. Thanks for a great event, and best of luck in 2006!
 
I want to thank you for staging the best tournament setting in the world. I have been to major tournament venues all over the East Coast and yours is second to none. I always stay on site and see no reason to change. Already booked and eagerly awaiting January.

I definitely recommend staying at the host hotel; Executive West. The rates are very reasonable and the rooms are quite satisfactory. Two years ago I had to stay down the street (EW was full) and it was a definite hassle. Of course, I like to spend 20 hours at a time at the venue; and it is nice to be able to pop back to the room quickly for a little rest, or to brush your teeth. I've already made reservations; I understand rooms are going fast.

Thanks. Made my resevations yesterday. It'll be my first time there and I can't wait.
 
Hey Greg what about the WPBA

Greg -

Did everything get worked out for the Women Pro's being able to play? Sarah Rousey said she was going to play this year at the DCC.

While I expect most of them to go 2 and out, it will help the prize pool. (Just kidding, well kidding a little at least.)

Just got a reply from the appropiate people regarding the women being allowed to come to the Derby and everything looks great. I'll be giving an official release as soon as I get all the Derby changes and additions this year nailed down. Some good stuff coming!

Okay, is there already a thread about who is going from here?

I've been seriously considering going, but I'd probably have to get a couple of friends from town to go with me so I don't feel like I'm going by myself (guess it would also save on hotel costs).
