Does anyone know what the scheduled realese date for the jennifer barretta movie 9 ball is? I know she just recently had a baby so I'm just curious. (I posted a thread not too long before this one but figured this one would bee seen more.)

The movie was scheduled for release in October by, Main Street Productions. Sadly, it seems, mainstreetproductions.com is no longer in existance. I too looked forward to the movie.

Welcome to the board, Nineballqueen. If you hear any further info on the movie please post it.

Jenn has her own forum here. :http://forums.azbilliards.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=24

She just had her baby, stop by and say hi to her. She always writes back.
:)

Latest news is that Jennifer herself stated that eventhough some scence have been shot for the movie, she herself has NOT done any scenes yet:eek: .... Looks like the movie might not even ever get made!:(

Well most investors realize making a pool movie wont cost much but it certainly wont make much either.;)

Color of Money did pretty well.

A fairly good pool movie with one of todays hot stars could do well and could help fill the suffering pool halls.
A storyline with a hot chick overcoming the odds seems like a winner to me.

The story is the most important thing. I'm not sure but I think 'The Hustler'
won the Academy Award for best screenplay. Thats a big reason why that movie was the best pool movie ever. Great story, like a Greek tragedy in a pool room.

Good luck to Jennifer with her project.

Dont get me wrong but the COM was 20 years ago,i think that some people have tried like with Pool Hall Junkies and Shooting Gallery.I mean they just have to do better and have a better screenplay, thats the key,its got to be believable yet still have some action, character and substance to it,The Hustler certainly did.

If West Side Story hadn't been made that year (1961) The Hustler probably would have won best picture-

Absolutly!
I know were a bit biased but what a movie. One of the all time great movies.

I too believe a movie about a woman player coming up to the pros could make mony. Start it in her young teen years and show hustling/gambling along the way. But if you don't have a young super star in the lead role...forget about it. And of course a good believable screen play. Johnnyt

I'm actually a little surprised by all of you. Pool movies are in the works ALL THE TIME. If you recall, Danny Basavich was given a large sum of money for movie-rights and I haven't heard a thing about that one, either. The fact is, this is not an uncommon thing in the movie industry. Ideas are pitched and filming begins and then it's scratched for whatever reason.

Also, you cannot compare anything to The Hustler or The COM. Both had all-star casts, solid writing and great filming. They went high-end on every angle. Most of the pool-movies that have been done since and ones that are being done now are simply not going to be the same. That isn't to say they won't be enjoyable. You just have to take it for what it's worth.

All I'm saying is, you might want to sit-back and relax. Nothing is happening anytime soon. When it does, the buzz will be insane.

Too true. Having come from LA, there are a million scripts I heard about pool. The problem is that no one can secure the big money to make a good movie. The guy's writing them aren't studio-types; they think that people want to see pool and that will never happen. Turn on ESPN or go to BCN for that.

That's funny, I was just going to say nearly the same thing. I worked for a company that would read scripts to see if there was a licensing benefit. The script was accompanied with a current list of companies that had already purchased licensing rights and it was obvious how important advance money must be in the decision to produce the movie or not.

With the high cost of production and distribution, it seems there are so many things that need to go absolutely perfectly for just about any movie to be completed, whether it's about pool or not.
