~~~96 Franklin SouthWest Ebony/Cocobolo w/A&B rings FOR SALE~~~
I'm pretty sure I saw this cue a couple weeks ago. He's got so many that I'm not positive that it's this one or not, but I think it is. I was playing against Terry in a tournament and he had it with him. Very nice looking cue. I didn't inspect it or shoot any balls with it, but it looked real good. Too heavy for me, but someone's going to get a beauty.
Thanks for your great explanation - I didn´t know the thing about starting each year with 300. :eek:
Learned something again here on AZ !!
Maybe somebody who knows Laura better could ash her, which was the number, you know. :confused:
But of course, I which you all the best for the sale of that awesome cue. :thumbup:
Erich
I've known Laurie since 1997 and have been out to visit her. She is a very wonderful lady, and I'm sure it wouldn't be the first and I know it also won't be the last, but there's no way I'm bringing up the subject of what cue was the last to leave the shop before Jerry passed. It's just not a subject I would feel comfortable talking with her about...
96 Franklin SW
this is no guarantee that i'm correct, but i believe 376 was last one shipped, 4 more were ready & picked up after funeral. i've had this one 301 322 fancy, & 379 fancy, that now belongs to Mark at Pool Table Magic. it was the last fancy SW. any numbers after 380 aren't Jerry Franklin's. there is no such thing as JF era. either they are or their not. hope this helps. hope to see all at Super Billiard Expo, downstairs booth L33. regards don
You are completely right and i would never do that, too.
But as we spoke about it, it´s nice to see that many people here on AZ seem to know it. :grin-square:
Thanks to sureman, now i can write somethink like 375 to 380 down in my book !!
I have 5 Southwest's and love them all. I waited over 12 years for the last two and put myself back on the waiting list. Obviously this foul input is from someone who knows nothing of the value of pieces of ART. So thank you to Laurie Franklin and her staff for carrying on Jerry's dream- make a beautiful cue that hits GREAT!
$ 500. SW's were all over the place back then, you could tell because they had a palm tree on the pin, were all numbered xxx1, and were accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Benjamin Franklin (Jerry's Brother, and an expert appraiser)
Hey Guys,
386-96 was the last numbered cue that Jerry worked on before his untimely passing. That cue was a Fancy cue that has JOB Billiards engraved in the bottom.
Best,
Ken Kerner
Let me preface my question here with a disclosure that I have a personal interest in this topic, since I own #414. You probably know more about this than I do, and I mean no disrespect here, but I must ask about this.
I don't know how SW works, but the cue builders I've met have shown me that it takes a long time from start to finish to make a cue. I would think many cues that turned out to have numbers higher than 386-96 must have been in various stages of work on that day.
#386 may well have been the last cue actually "finished", but is it somewhere documented for certain that Jerry never touched any part of the other cues that may have been in work in the shop at that time during any of the previous stages of their construction?
I have talked with Laurie about this before, and it's not something I would want to do again but she told me that Jerry was basically just doing the finish on the cues for the last couple of years before he passed. To me, unless it's an ultra-fancy SW, and SW is a SW. I have a brand new 2010 SW that plays every bit as good as the one in this thread. It all comes down to what types of wood you prefer and color of veneers with regards to SW cues in my opinion because most of them play jam up anyway.
I wish...
I wish I had a dollar for every rack I've seen you run with a Southwest...probably wouldn't get me to Disney World but I'm sure I could buy a nice weekend in Wisconsin. SRB
The secret to running racks is to
make sure your cue has new batteries...
You don't want your cue to lose it's
power in the middle of a match...:p
Well all i can say is great looking cue and seeing as i have been around a few months now this is the first time i have ever seen such trash talk glad to hear that this crap is not over looked and that az higher ups frown upon such crap and that guys like this get the much deserved boot. The pool community is a small one as it seems and from my point of veiw this site has the best of the best in that small pool world and i'm glad to be a part of this site as i consider it my favorite place to surf when i'm online.......xplayhardx aka jeff
I reread this thread from start to finish. I must say it was interesting, again...
Thanks to all of you who provided some knowledge on the SouthWest cues,
I appreciate it. But, that being said I've just sold my other 9pt SouthWest so
I'll be keeping this as my player. Thanks again everyone...
