A blast from the past!

Please thank Mike for this contribution! Thank you Jay!

When's your new book, Pool Wars II coming out?

JoeyA

"More Pool Wars" Joey!
Soon, soon, soon, I promise you. I should have copies on the market by the first of the year. Just a few more details to get taken care of and it's off to the printer. I'm getting jazzed up myself, because I can finally see the finish line.

Blast

Thanks for the memories.

I was in school at OU during that time, learning and falling in love with the game. I certainly remember Mike, Kurt and Jay.

My old buddy Mike Vaught sent me an e-mail the other day with his recollections of trips we made to Johnston City and the Stardust tourneys way back in 1965, not even fifty years ago!

Mike and I met at Oklahoma U. in the early 60's and our love for pool brought us together. He was a pretty fair Snooker player and could also play a good game of 9-Ball. My strength back then was One Pocket and Banks so we decided to team up and take our act on the road, all the way to Oklahoma City.

We were both only 20 to 21 years old when we hung out, but in that age group we were two of the best around. The older more seasoned players could eat us up though and we knew where to draw the line. In the local poolrooms of OKC and the bars at night, we didn't do all that badly, somehow managing to hang onto the rent money.

I thought it would be fun to share his memories of that long ago adventure with you guys. He told me he wouldn't mind at all. Mike is a member here but does not post.

Okay, enjoy.

Sorry guys, it keeps coming up as an Invalid File. All I know is that it's a Microsoft Word document. Maybe I could e-mail it to someone who is able to post it on here. Thanks

Thank you Jay for sharing. I could hear the young enthusiasm as he recalled these wonderful memories of his youth. I think most of us have a similar story that got us hooked on this great game

50 !

Sorry, Jay, but in round numbers it is 50 years. Half-century. Time flies when your mind is in the P.I. ;)

Thank you to you and your friend for writing this, Jay. Fantastic!! And what a memory. I love these stories.

Thanks for sharing these great memories. It was nice of Mike to take the time to write it down!

Great read Jay,,I was too young to make those spots , mentioned above..but I knew a lot of the Gents mentioned..and some of the stories I've heard ,,mirrored the ones told.

We sleepily drove back to Norman in Jay’s Corvette sometime late Sunday, taking turns at the wheel. One final note – there really is something to the concept of seeing something done correctly and then doing it yourself. The next time I played, which was pretty soon after we returned, I noticed that my stroke seemed just a little bit smoother, just a little better after watching those fine players all weekend.

Wow, Jay had a Corvette nearly 50 years ago! I'm gonna have to ask him about that.

It was a '67 Vette with the big block (427 c.i.) motor, well over 400 HP! It would scream, and I had my license suspended more than once.
