A decent Cue on a budget?

I know I'll probably get a different opinion (and flamed ;) ) from just about every poster but her it goes any way...

I play mostly bar box 8 ball with a cue off the wall. The house cues are pretty bad but I have gotten friendly with a few and am doing ok. I'm looking for one (lets call it a starter) that's in the $100 range that can hold me over until my finances lighten up a bit... then I can pass it along to my wife and move up.

Is there anyone brand/cue that sticks out in your mind? Please don't tell me to go to K-Mart ;)

Players or Lucasi make decent cues in that price range. Just make sure to shop somewhere you can try them out, not every cue hits the same!

If that is your boat in your avatar, I can't understand why you need to skimp on a cue. If not, then I would suggest a McDermott plain Jane or SP.

heh... If you were self employed in the online home furnishings business at this very moment, you would understand the reason for my frugality. Also, that boat is my only home, not my second :)

Thanks for the suggestions on the cues!

Buy a cheap butt and a used Predator from one of the respected members on our board. It'll play like a $600 Predator....

does anyone remember the old lucasi that was all maple with like the slanted box design in the buttsleeve reteail was like 129$

kinda like tad style. cant find pins anywhere

Lucasi sneaky. If memory serves me correctly, Ivorine III ferrule, yummy yummy! Nice wand for the buck.

Exhibition grade Cocobola

Here is a simple Players Sneeky Pete. When the cue order came into my local room, we all were amased when we saw the wood. Somebody took their job very seriously overseas...the forearm is dark straight grained "old" maple and the cocobolla is superb. Pics show off both sides. This is a lot of cue despite being an overseas product. It is unchalked. I hit some centerball shots with it and it has a great feel. Pass it down to your wife when business is good. Keep it and add a predator shaft if you want a gorgeous lethal weapon for the bar room. The shaft is straight grained. No lift but a slight taper roll. The butt is gorgeous. 5/16X18 pin and players weight, about 19oz. Shipped to you, with a hard tube case, $85.

id go with drawmans sneaky. I had a chance to see it last night at our local tournament and the cocobola on this cue is beautiful. I play with a custom jacoby but my first cue was a players butterfly cue very simular to drawmans sneaky - and it hit like we the people. cant go wrong for $85 - and you get a case...

Thanks for all of the input. Greatly appreciated. For those that have PMed, thanks for the offers and suggestions but I'll most likely be supporting a local company.

I've an old full splice house cue that was converted that I would be willing to sell. I'll get some specs and pics if you are interested.
